Hi" all just bought a audiophile 2496 ,it's fitted and driver's have been installed........ my problem is it seem's to be really quiet until I change to ASIO in the audio options of AP4.0. but, when i do this the file play's fine until I hit space/stop !! on doing this I get an exceptional error?? and acid closes... can some one help me out.... settings on my audiophile are.... patchbay/router settings = wav out 1/2.....checked hw out s/pdif = wave out s/pdif..checked all help much appreciated ... ;) |

If you're using XP, get the latest beta drivers over at M-Audio's Web site. You want the 5.10.00.29x12 version. HTH, Iacobus |

hi MD thanx for the reply !! i downloaded the beta version but im still getting the same error?? Maybe there is something im doing wrong when unpacking the zip file ? is there a spercific location the beta file should be placed? When activating the asio in options there are also two midi input symbols that appear over the master fader and preview fader could this also be relevent? cause when clicking those during playback i also get the error... thanx .... |

Be absolutely sure you do not install drivers over an existing install of soundcard drivers. Always use the "Delta Uninstaller" program first that comes with the driver package, reboot, then install the newer drivers. You have MIDI input symbols over the Preview and Master faders? Weird. HI" again the driver update seem's to have solved the stop/start error with A4pro....but now im getting stuttering playback,crackles and pops?..... once again any help much appreciated... :) |

HEY all... Still having the same problem's hope someone see's this that can help !!(where's the resident tech support?) Anyway's i was looking through the system device manager checking for IRQ conflict's and noticed that i have a network adapter on the same IRQ = #18...could this be the problem?? if so how would i change this??....... Thanx for the help !! Who knows? maybe i'll get back to making some music shortly?? ;) |

Yes, the Audiophile NEEDS its own IRQ. M-Audio says it can only share an IRQ with PCI Steering. To solve this you can try moving the LAN card or the Audiophile to another PCI slot if you have any free, or you can create another hardware profile for audio only and disable the LAN card in that profile. Do a search. There are threads in this forum and others that deal in more detail with IRQ conflicts. IRQ 18? Is that in Windows XP? Seems like you didn't install XP in Standard PC mode which seems to be the recommended way of doing it. Dave |

This is advice I received from my guru. Take all cards out and start fresh. Remove any and all unused cards, if you use DSL say and also have a modem remove the modem, if you use dial-up remove the NIC card. Place the cards in ascending order according to priority. Example Main S/C 1st slot, secondary S/C in next slot so forth for S/C, if you're using only one card put the next most important device in the next slot and so forth. I'm assuming you have disabled any onboard sound. If not it's advisable to do so. With the 2496 if you're not using the S/PDIF there's no reason for the mixer to be set to it. If you are using S/PDIF Digital cables are a must, contrary to what some people say a digital cable is coaxial and necessary for information transfer. I use H/W in 1/2 also you might lower the DMA Latency to 384 or 256 if it's sitting at 512. I'v ebeen using the 5.10.00.29x12(beta) drivers mainly for the multiple card support but most everybody finds the 5.10.0.26 or 5.10.00.27 to be reliable. Hope this helps...Level Vibes |

Sometimes, you can also find out what slot is assigned what IRQ via your motherboard's manual (if it came with one). The manual will also more than likely tell you which slots do not share IRQ's. You really don't want to use a "Standard PC" config. That's considered a last ditch effort now, especially with your config, which sounds like it has APIC support. (More info can be found here.) You can also try temporarily disabling the NIC by right-clicking it in the Device Manager and selecting Disable. Use a 75 Ohm RCA coaxial cable only if you're using S/PDIF, as it's standard. Any other type of cable (like plain RCA audio cables) will give you no sound or static. HTH, Iacobus |

HI all, thanx again for your help!! But i just cannot seem to nail this sucker and it's really pis$ing me off....I got intouch with(M-Audio) tech support and so far they have not been that helpful,they just pretty much suggested what i have tried already....Mmmm??.It really suck's that manufactures get away with releasing stuff without pointing out the full fact's!! there should be some sort of regulatory body for hardware and software before it hit's the shelves.....It's like buying a car driving out of the showroom only to crash 10km down the road ,then have the dealer turnaround and say "oH yeah forgot to mention ,were gonna add the breaks at a later date"....... maybe i should take the card back and go with the DMX6fire?? |
