i've noticed that the bit depth selector only gives me the option of 8 or 16-bit. the wav i'm loading is 24-bit. could that be whats preventing me from opening a file to det data on the timeline? i thought sound forge could work with 24-bit.

What version do you have? 24-bit support is included in the full version of Sound Forge 5.0 and later, but not 4.5, 4.5 XP, 5.0 Studio, or 6.0 Studio.

Whoops. Only Sound Forge 6.0, not Sound Forge Studio 6.0, can work with 24-bit files. Studio 6.0 can only work with files that are 16-bit/48 kHz max. That's probably also the cause of your problem in your other post. Sorry.
