Get a quality microphone, a mic preamp and an audio interface such as a soundcard or external USB audio interface like those from M-Audio or Edirol. Some of these interfaces like the Duo from M-Audio or the UA-5 from Edirol act as mic preamps as well. You could also use a mixer with a built-in mic preamp as well and then output that to your soundcard or audio interface. Simply launch the Record window in Sound Forge, select the appropriate input for recording (under Device) and shout away. HTH, Iacobus |

Hi: You need a microphone connected first of all. Open up your Sound Forge software. Click on the button with the red circle on it that's up and to the left below both "File" and the icon that looks like a white sheet of paper. Put a checkmark in the "Monitor" box in the new window that appears. Talk into the microphone and see how the sound levels are. If you're using a preamp adjust the input of the microphone up or down to get the desired level of sound in the monitors. If you're not using a preamp you can try to adjust the microphone input level through the Windows settings in your computer for Sound. You'll probably have an option there for "Microphone." When you're happy with your input levels click the red button on the same screen where the input levels are and you'll begin recording immediately. At that moment the round red circle on the button becomes a black square on the button which you can click on to stop the recording process. After this close the recording window, see the wave you've made in the other window from recording your voice and play it back. Make sure you have your sound turned up so you can hear what you've recorded. Jim |
