greetings,

I installed Cubase VST that came with my Audigy Platinum, but whenever I direct ACID to my cubase directory or subdirectories, it won't detect it any vsts. The only VST I've been able to have ACID detect is the Delay Lama. (If anyone knows any free vsts that work, that would be cool as well)

I know that there are some over at K-v-R. (You'll have to do a search and specify free instruments in your query.) There are also some on Computer Music magazine's included CD-ROM each month.

Note that ACID 4.0 supports VSTi's (VST instruments) and not VST effects, which are different.

Some of the VSTis (and VSTs, which we don't support) bundled with Cubase and Nuendo will not run unless they are launched by these apps. We filter them out as they tell us this - in a not so nice way.

Also, some of the these VSTis may not have self contained user interfaces. They expect the host to display a generic UI. ACID does not support these types of plugins.

You are typing a sentence and want to put a link HERE.

Let's see if I can do this so you can actually see the type...because what I typed just posted as a hot link. Okay, please make the following substitutions in what I type below: ( = <, ) = >.

(a href="http://www.thelinkyouwanttolinkto.com")HERE(/a).

HERE will appear underlined and, when clicked, will link to the specified URL. All you really have to remember is the html hyperlink toggle, on: (a href="") and off: (/a)--substituting < and > for the ( and ), of course! LOL! You can then copy the link from your browser and paste it between the "" or manually type it in. You have to include the http://.

Again, I wish this forum software did this automatically. Some of the others do. But you have to be careful with those not to put any punctuation (like a period) at the end of the link or the punc will go into the link and it won't work.

Second that vote. I'm always mucking up my code with a misplaced character and have to go back to edit. :)

You can pretty much use any HTML code, like type size, bold or italic as well as hyperlinks. Just don't go too crazy with it. ;o)

I went through all of the VST"i" bullshit....I thought vsti and vst were the same thing, partly because people often use them interchangably. But it's not the same thing at all. The "i" stands for instudment I think, and it means you can use midi with virtual vsti synths like the one included in acid 4 pro. But all is not lost, if you want to use VST effects in acid you'll have to get what's called a VST wrapper. It's a little app that runs totally in the backround that magically makes your vst effects appear to be direct x....I installed it and it works fine. I think there are some free ones...I paid $30.
just do a search on yahoo or whereever for vst wrapper....good luck

I was under the impression that a VST wrapper only works with programs that are programmed to allow them to be used. But is this not the case? Like, could I use a VST wrapper to get VSTi capability into a program that is not VSTi-compatible? That would be a most wonderful blessing if so. Please tell me more!

is that really cubase or is it cubasis that came with your sound card?

cubasis does not work like cubase.

Groovewerx is right: Cubasis (which you probably got free with your soundcard--I got it with my Echo Mia) is NOT the same thing as Cubase. It's very lightweight and there's a lot you can't do with it. And that autoplaying demo song will get in your head and drive you mad. I seriously doubt we're ever going to get a piece of software that costs more than the soundcard free with a soundcard.

However, that said, over at kvr-vst.com, in the discussion on Chainer I think--nose around at kvr--one guy was ecstatic because the Chainer/Cubasis combo was working for him. I've tried the Chainer demo over the weekend, and I'm just so thrilled to have found it. It works very well to hook up my scoring program to VSTis and effects via SoFo's Virtual Midi Router. And although it's capable of much complexity, it's very easy to use for people (like me) who don't understand all this midi routing stuff very well. I haven't tried it with Acid yet, because I've seen no need to based on how I work. What it will allow me to do is render all my dry mono waves directly out of my scoring program, and then it will be a snap to bring them into Acid for mixing and effects processing.
