Last year, I completed a solo CD project and had copies printed. I have distributed all of the original copies and now must reorder. As I have listened to the songs over the past months, I came to wish that I had added a bit of vocal here, an extra percussion part there, etc. My question: How risky would it be for me to import some of the mastered songs into ACID or Sonar and add an extra track or two of musical interest and then export/render the original .wav plus the added tracks back to CD? I would then take the edited version back to the replicator for more copies to be made. Would I lose any quality or presence from the original file due to the importing and exporting processes? Are there any dangers or pitfalls that I'm not considering? Thanks for any ideas you might care to offer. |

I would just make sure that you keep everything lossless (use WAV) during the process and use 24-bit all the way to gain the added headroom for processing. It's probably wise to keep the original project in whatever original format it was in if it was created in a software app like SONAR or ACID and archive it. That way, you can go back to it as you want. HTH, Iacobus |
