Subject:Refreshing the Explorer Window?

Say I've got a CD already in my CD Rom drive while using ACID. If I stick another CD in that drive, ACID doesn't recognize it unless I close it and reopen. Is there a way to refresh the explorer without having to close and reopen ACID?

I think within the explorer window using F5 will do the trick. Acid 4 is much worse than Acid 2 at refreshing the explorer window. Acid 2 seemed to do it a bit more automatically, and was certainly faster.

If I were you I'd consider getting a hard drive to keep your loops on. Exchanging CDs is very time-consuming. Better to copy all your loops onto a hard drive.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Cool, thanks for the tip Chris. Yeah, I've been meaning to put all my samples on the hard drive. I just got a new system with a 120 gigs so I have no reason not to. I even downloaded a freeware sample organizer program, so I really don't have any excuse except that I've been lazy :).

Glad to help out. What is the sample organiser program and where can I get it - sounds like it might be handy.

Cheers,

Chris

Hey Chris, it's at www.geocities.com/samplecatalog

Here's the text from the readme:

Welcome to Sample Catalog! (version 1.2.1)
Sample Catalog is an easy to use application to manage and categorize sampled sound files in different formats. The program is not limited to store only samples, however. You can catalog channel, effect and other instrument presets you might use in your home studio setup. It's purpose is to save you time searching through the vast amount of your samples and settings stored on your hard drive, so you can quickly find the ones you are looking for. And best of all... it's FREE!

Features

Explorer style interface
Samples can be organized in libraries using the familiar windows explorer interface. The libraries are organized in a hierarchical tree view on the left side of the window.

Easy sample preview
Samples can be previewed with a click of a mouse.

User comments
You can assign comments to individual samples and libraries.

Customizable categories
There can be up to 512 custom categories/filters created for each catalog.

Import/Export custom categories
The categories can be easily saved and later loaded as templates.

Drag and drop support to and from other programs
Samples can be drag-and-dropped to and from other programs. Using drag and drop you can easily transfer your samples (ar any other supported files) all at once. Or you can drag the samples (or other supported file types) from the other program into the catalog for storing.

Custom libraries
You can organize the samples in libraries. These libraries can mimic the structure of your folders on your hard drive, or you can simply organize the libraries as you like based on, for example, the current music project you are working on. You can either add individual files (samples) or you can add the contents of a folder and its subfolders at once to a library.

Powerful search options
You can search for samples based on their name, size, comment or assigned category. Boolean values, such as AND/OR, are also supported.

Category filtering
If you have lot's of samples in your catalog, you can quickly display only the ones which match categories you specify. You can apply boolean AND/OR to the selected filters.

Customizable file format support
You can specify the type of files you would like to support. These file types will be searched for when adding files or directories. All these files can be transferred via drag and drop to and from your favorite application.
