Try several things: -Get the latest update of ACID 4.0 (ACID 4.0b Build 317). -Shut off anything and everything you're not using in the background before you use ACID Pro. This may include software firewalls, instant messengers, antivirus programs, etc. Usually, these programs reside in the Systray in the lower right beside the clock. -Update drivers for your soundcard and video card if possible. -Try the tips over at MusicXP.net. -Always, always make a backup of your projects no matter what. ACID 4.0 has a built-in crash recovery feature, as well as the ability to autosave every few minutes, but I don't know why it didn't work for you. (Did you turn these options off? They're located under Options>Preferences on the menu bar.) Maybe your anger is a little misdirected? I always tell users that in order to get the most out of any DAW (digital audio workstation) app such as ACID, SONAR, Cubase, et al., then they must be willing to sacrifice using their PC for other tasks besides DAW work. That means no antivirus, no software firewalls, no instant messengers, no games, etc. The same goes for hardware: No scanners, cameras, printers, etc. The less you have on your system, the better off you will be. I can almost guarantee that. HTH, Iacobus |

I'm running a P4 1.9 GHz with Intel motherboard and a gig of RAM. My PC is optimised for audio and all networking is turned off. I don't have anything on it but audio shite. However, I've experienced major crashes where Acid will shut itself down but continue to run in the background. It did this on my other computer as well which was an AMD XP1500. I don't understand. I've updated ALL my drivers. I'm recording to an Ultra SCSI II hard drive. I feel your pain shadowbunny. |

I have the same problem, and my machine runs nothing but audioand has been "optimized for audio". My other programs (Cubase SX / Sound Forge, etc..) work fine on my machine, not Acid 4.0; it crashes Win XP regularly. In the beginning, I lost work. Now, I save my work to another drive every 5 minutes. I've had cases where I can't open work I've saved to my main drive(Thank God for backups). It gets worse when I use vst instruments. I too feel your pain.. |

I haven't crashed once since I updated to 4.0b. I was crashing a lot with 4.0a. XP Pro, installed ACPI, on a loaded P4. Echo Mia with WDM drivers. |

Man, it's so weird how Acid 4's stability varies so much from person to person. I know it's to be expected a little with any app, but it seems Acid is to the extreme. I'm with Diane, I haven't crashed once with 4.0b and actually the only time I would crash in 4.0a is when I tried to fiddle around with the DLS synth. I feel for the people still having problems. |

I really do think my life improved immensely when I turned off Windows System Restore and started using Norton Ghost to back up my system instead. I know things speeded up a whole lot, and come to think of it, I pretty much stopped crashing all my apps. |

Indeed, trying to find out what causes crashes from one system to another is headache inducing. IMHO, PC's will never become appliances, despite the various vendors' efforts to convince everyone otherwise. Iacobus |

Hi Fist things first....when I first open a song in Acid, it always says there's an error. I just simply click ok, save it right away, close it down and start it again and the message goes away. If I don't do that, the message always comes back and I get into trouble. Secondly, you should be saving all the time! Are you? Even if it crashes at the end, if you've save a bunch of times at least you wont lose everything. Last but not least....xp sucks! I got sick of havning problems and took a week to test different sound cards operating under xp and 2000. I never have problems with 2000. Xp seems to perform better for video stuff, dvd's or whatever, but is terrible at music. Someone told me the reason once, I can't remember it off hand. But seriously, acid is a very solid program and although I have some problems too, they're worth it....good luck! |
