Subject:How should I record vocal and guitars parts?

I'm the new one in all this music stuff....
I have written few songs and I would like to record them....
I have Sound Forge 6.....
how should I record vocal parts? plug mic right in line in or use some boost before that or some other way?
and guitars..... record in line in and then add effects?, or records through mic the amp sound?

If your going to record guitar & vocals at the same time, you will need a mixer. If you want to overdub, you'll need a multi-track program such as Vegas.
SF is a 2-trk. program.
