Other DVD Burners in DVD Architect

I just want to get a feel for what DVD burners people are using that aren't on the Supported Drive list. And if they are working in DVD Architect 1.0. I'm mostly interested to see if people have luck with the new Pioneer DVR-105, but any drive info will be helpful.

Here is the current, official, support drive list.

Sony DRU-120 (+RW)
Sony DRU-500 (+RW/-RW)
HP 200i (+RW)
HP 200e (+RW)
Philips DVDRW228 (+RW)
Pioneer DVR-104 (-RW)
Pioneer DVR-103 (-RW)
Matsushita/Panasonic LF-311 (-R)
Matsushita/Panasonic LF-321 (-R)

Dumb question: Are the formats (-RW), included in the parens the only disks supported for that particular drive? For instance, Pioneer 104 only the -RW disks and not the -R disks?

Thanks,
Bob

I'm using the A04, but I have a question about the burn question. I was going to test the burning with the burning project (didn't because I was too lazy to find a blank DVD-RW). But I did get to the point where it gave me burn speed choices. It gave me choices of 1x, 2x and 4x. First of all, the A04 doesn't support 4x. Shouldn't these values be set according to the drive's capabilities? Second, there should be a "max" option a la RecordNow DX and Easy CD Creator. This way it should autodetect thd drive's capabilities with the current media (that is it will burn at 1x for RW and 2x for supported R discs). I assume setting it at 2x will do that, but still...

Additionally, there are no options to copy DVDs or erase DVD-RWs. Especially with the latter, it seems crazy to have to use another program to erase a DVD-RW.

I have a Sony DRU-500A. Not sure if this is any different than the DRU-500. Haven't tried to burn anything yet. [brucx]

yirm,

Just to let you know, V4 will erase a -RW if it needs to before burning. I burned their sample project onto an -RW last night using my A03, and it went fine. As you mentioned, I would like to see a "figure out what the best speed is" selection, rather than having to manually set it. I burned the -RW at 1x just because I wasn't sure.

Right -- and I abandoned because I didn't want to try to force the recorder to burn 2x on a 1x media. A Max setting will let users not have to think about it -- even if it functions exactly the same as using the max available speed. But its showing the 4x there seems pretty sloppy.

I used the HP 100i (+RW) with the sample buring project, and it worked fine. The list only mentions the HP 200i.

Oh, and DVDA detected that it was a 2.4x drive and burned at the correct speed.

The problem with the "max" speed settings is the firmware with the drives
must support it. Thats why I had problems with the max setting on
MYDVD 4.0 OEM (AO-5)
burning to a Pioneer AO-3. Created many slugs. MYDVD 4.0 OEM with Pioneer
AO-5 worked fine.

Even more reason to have these options customized to the DVD burner found on the machine. Though I suppose various firmware versions of the same drive could have different levels of support.

I was able to burn the sample project on my Pioneer A05. It erased the DVD-RW and burned it at 2x just like it was supposed to. Seemed to work fine.

Does it ask you if you want to erase the disc before it does?

Yes, it did.
