Hey sqblz,
Goto www.revisionfx.com .....it is not as plugin for Vegas (not yet anyway....if Satish the magician can pull the correct rabbit out of the hat)....you need AE or Premiere(yes just cringe at the thought). Funnily enough I did get it to work in AIST MovieDV if you can bear it just to render it and then export into Vegas.
It is based on the paint FX they used in "As Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams....and it is quite beautiful when used sparingly! Good luck...

Holy pumpkin' schplit!!!! I've been looking for something like Rotoshop forever!!! So much more friendly than using Premiere/Photoshop to do the same (this Rotoshop creates the frames between the "main key frames" you've drawn).
Is there any other program like this one? I've watched the video with the creator of the app and he says it's not available yet; Think I'm gonna cry...!

Looks very interesting... Hmmm.. :)

Yeah, that rotoshop (greatname!) has had me drooling since seeing Waking Life....I don't know if it will ever be released commercially though ;( I am pinning my hopes more on Studio Artist (www.synthetik.com) which looks incredible (mac only at the moment). They assure me that a PC port is on the way...so if anyone else is interested, then send 'em an email of support...and a hurry up!

BTW Satish, if you are ever able to get 8bf plugins working in Vegas, do you think the parameters will be keyframable? Would be incredible 8=)

Futz,

Holy pumpkin' schplit!!!!

I couldn't have said it better. Several months ago I rented the "Waking Life" movie as a DVD from Blockbuster, and I found it to be quite inspiring. In addition to the full movie, the DVD had a lot of interesting commentaries and extra material about the making of the "Waking Life" including some information on Rotoshop. (I love that name.) I probably will wind up buying the DVD, because it is kind of a landmark in independent animation film making.

Rotoshop may not be available yet, and possibly it may never be, but you might be interested in Wildform's Flix programs, which can produce both high quality Flash movies and vector video movies from your DV footage. Flix's vector video can be surprisingly similar to some of the animations in "Waking Life" and Flix's video is much easier to produce. For some examples of the possibilities of Flix's vector video, explore this webpage, and notice that you can scroll down quite a way, because it is a long page.

Vector Video with Flix Pro

Although the Flix examples shown are not as detailed as the animations in the "Waking Life" movie, that film was produced by a team of animators, each of whom did a lot of hand work in the Rotoshop application to produce their segments of the film. By contrast, Flix's vector video is pretty much all done automatically by Flix and your computer, with guidance on your part in the form of control settings and clip selection. You could bring Flix's vector videos into Vegas to perfect the productions. Flix comes in three versions. For a comparison of the three Flix versions, see:

Wildform Flix Pro, Flix SE, and Flix Lite features matrix

I think it is possible that Flix Pro could evolve into something as good as or better than Rotoshop. I would like to see more optional hands-on Rotoshop-like control of the vectorization process, control over optional outline inking, smoother frame-to-frame correlation, higher frame rates, and user control over the "painterliness" to render art effects as good as and better than those in "Waking Life." I am thinking along the lines of a hybrid of the Corel Painter fineart effects, Creature House's Expression vector painting, and Wildform's Flix vector video for import into Vegas' versatile multitrack video/audio editing/compositing. For some features of the current Flix Pro, see:

Flix Pro Features

"Waking Life" is a good source of inspiration, but I think of it as just a jumping off point. I think there are virtually unlimited possibilities for converting DV footage into some really creative video art.

Thank you, folks, for this enlightening thread !!!
So much places to go, time so short ...

That's a problem zendorf, not all Photoshop .8bf filters cannot be made keyframmable. In contrast, After effects .aex and Premiere .prm filters that have been written as per the standard SDK can be made to keyframe in Vegas, so that is what i am trying now.

Thanks for the reply Satish....that is sorta what I figured...regarding some 8bf's being keyframable and others not. We will take anything you are willing to give us....any idea of when any beta versions of your convertor will be available...not to rush you tho! Bags being a beta tester ;)
