Subject:Importing Individual Drum Sounds?

Hello -

I am brand new to Acid Pro, so here is my rediculous question:

Is there a way to customize your own drum track(s) by putting them together yourself? So instead of using a 5 second drum loop you could actually assign where the bass drum hit is, high hat, snare, etc..... Can this be done in Acid Pro or do I need something else? --- Also, where could I get these basic sound clips (for the individual drum pieces?).

Thankyou much.

Hey Tommy,

Check out Drum Components R.A.D.S. by Sonic Foundry. http://sonicfoundry.com/loop_libraries/ShowLoop.asp?PID=31. Lots of usable stuff on that CD. Unless you're a drummer or have a real good sense of what a live drum set should sound like, it will be time consuming and maybe a little frustrating to use it though. But you can make any beat you want. Making your own fills and having them not sound stiff is another story. Very tricky but doable. My "real" instrument is drum set, and I'm very pleased with what I can do with this particular loop library.

HTH,

Steve

Another option would be to pick up a VSTi sampler/rompler and do it via MIDI. Go pick up a copy of Computer Music magazine and there are several free pieces of software/samples each month on the CD that comes with it. Computer Music and Muon Software have put out two samplers (one espeicially for drums and one general purpose sampler) that are always on the CD.

acidfanatic.com has a tutorial on how to use acid as a drum machine (create your own loops from individual samples).

To add to what everyone's said, you can also use the Chopper to pick out parts of a drum loop. If all you want is the snare hit, you would just highlight it in the Chopper and insert it into the track (once you place the cursor). This is also an ideal way to rearrange a loop if you don't like the way it sounds initially. You could then copy and paste as you see fit.

(ACID Pro, it should be noted, is the only version of ACID that has the Chopper.)

You can find a pretty good collection of kit samples
here: http://www.nskit.com/

You can put together just about any beat you can think of.
My problem is that I'm not a drummer, so I don't know any cool beats.
