i apologize for the previous post i had, but frustration was taking its toll on me. here are my questions: 1. i am using reason and acid 4. (to be honest, i dont think its acid 4b, is that a big problem??) i am trying to sync acid with reason. in other words...i am loading an acapella into acid, stretching it to 140 bpm. i am TRYING to now go into reason to start laying down my beats to the acapella loaded into acid, but i cant get the 2 programs to sync together. i go into the preferences and select midi, but i have like 6 choices of different midi ports and everything. no matter what i choose, i cant get the 2 programs to sync together. any suggestions??? (diane...thank you for the earlier response, and like i said i apologize for the all caps and not too specific questioning) i did read many of the earlier posts, but its still noit helping too much. 2. i am trying to insert a midi track directly into acid. just using the included vst soft synth (i believe its a g4 set or something like that) there is like 120 different voices included in it, but no matter what i do, i can only get a single simple piano sound. i cant get any other sounds to trigger. any suggestions??? bottom line...obviously i have A LOT of trouble with midi. like i said, i understand what midi is. i understand the theory behind midi. i need help in real world midi implementation. how to get programs to sync. how to have programs recognize midi input hardware. thank you in advance to anyone who takes time to try and help this lost soul out!!!! --marc |

I have a lot of trouble with midi, too...and frustration, too! So no problem! Here's something that might help with your piano problem in the DLS soft synth. Everything in the default gm.dll synth, which Acid pulls from the Windows System/Drivers folder, is according to the GM midi spec, for purposes of coding the patches/instrument changes. Btw, I tried the "trick" of renaming that .dll and renaming the Geniesys DLS bank to gm.dll instead, but Acid crashes if you try to do that. Maybe one day there will be a different way to go, but for now I don't use the DLS Soft Synth much. I use VSTis...but those can be really tricky, too. Not to mention power-hungry. And lest you think you're going crazy, there are still issues with both VSTis and midi in Acid. I'm sorry I can't help more with the sync problem. I don't try to sync Acid to other programs, so I know less than you do on that topic. |

I take it you have the Virtual MIDI Router? You'll need this if you expect to sync two software apps together. Another thing: ACID always likes to be the master in any sync situation. I don't know offhand if Reason will slave (since I don't use that app). Be sure to take a look at these KB topics dealing with sync and these KB topics dealing with the VMR. HTH, Iacobus |
