Subject:Some final questions before deciding whether to upgrade from acid pro3 to 4

I have been using the demo extensively, and there are a few things missing, that if I am somehow wrong and they DO exist, would allow acid pro to be replaced as my main composition tool...I would really appreciate replies

1) i cannot work out for the life of me when there are multiple vsti's in a project, and i want to play just ONE of them with my external keyboard, whilst playing back a a song, how to do this....I always hear myself playing back every vsti in the project simultaneously....

2)Is there a cpu usage window anywhere to give some indication of where you are at cpu wise???

3)Is there ANY way to sync vst plugins wrapped with a dx wrapper to tempo??? vsti's seem to be fine...

4) Are there any plans to add vst effect support, and syncable to tempo??

5)How do you automate vsti parameters...going nutz here!!!!

6) is there any way of sidechaing? for example, to use rgc audio pentagon vsti with the vocoder on, and to play "midi" of sidechained audio being fed into it..i.e. drum loop

Cheers and thanks in advance

1.) you need Acid Pro 4 to use VSTi's. In order to use multiple ones, just insert multiple VSTi's and multiple Midi tracks and assign each track to whatever VSTi you want...but beware of your system resources!!

2.) no cpu usage, but a ram usage in the bottom right hand corner.

3.) im not sure on what you mean? what plugins do you speak of that need to be synced?

4.) see above

5.) what do you want to automate? volume? panning? effects?

6.) yes

1) I know I need acid pro 4 to use vst instruments, but i'm saying if say, i've got ajunglist vsti and a sampletank in one project, when i play my keyboard i only want to hear one at a time but they all play back!!

2) This is pathetic and unheard of, first 'pro" app I have ever heard without a cpu indicator........Sonic foundry, is this going to happen?? i mean, without it, you cant monitor effects for denormalization or anything like that

3) plenty - scuzzphut, ohmforce, ultrafunk, to name a few

4)

5) i want to automate the paramters of the vst instrument, for example, in the steinberg model-e, I may want to autmate cutoff or resonance

6) how??

TIA

Regarding the CPU indicator I realise you shouldn't need to do this but do you know if you bring up Windows Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL), click the performance tab window and double click inside the CPU usage graph task manager resizes itself as a CPU usage monitor. Although when it appears it takes up a good chunk of the screen you can resize it virtually as small as you like. It floats over Acid so you can put it where you like. Double clicking restores the ordinary task manager window.

Hope this helps,

Chris (Hunt)

Just a comment about things playing at the same time, and I don't know if this comment is meaningful at all or how it might affect your keyboard situation.

Until 4.0b came out, there were some weird problems with tracks rendering down mixed together when you'd, say, solo one track to render it. You had to mute all the tracks you didn't want, then render the track, and even then sometimes bizarre bleedthroughs and other weirdnesses would happen. I exclusively used VSTis, so I'm not sure if this was a problem in other areas. The problem was fixed in 4.0b.

If the demo you're using has not been revised to reflect the 4.0b updating, perhaps this could account for some of your experiences.

1) De-select the 'MIDI In' on the the VSTi's you don't want your external keyboard to play.

C Ya.

aah, that means you just disable the midi interface on the particular synth you want to avoid....at first i thought it had something to do with the "real time midi" button, but that is a universal on/off switch for all synths.

So this still leaves a bunch of other questions from my origian post...SF...careto chip in here???

Oh well guys and gals, it doesn't matter anymore....SF seem like they don't want to answer my questions:( I ended up buying "Traktion" from www.rawmaterialsoftware.com instead which is half the price of the acid UPGRADE, and does everything acid does and more...a bloody brilliant program..Cheers
