Can anyone tell me how much of a difference recording into a balanced input on a soundcard makes compared to an unbalanced input??? The pod 2.0 has 1/4" balanced outputs, but I'm recording into an unbalanced 1/4" input on my computer. Is the balanced/unbalanced difference significant??? Fresnog |

Balanced inputs can result in a lot less noise and hum. If you're connecting a microphone directly to the input the difference can be significant. If you're using line level signal then the difference might not be as noticeable. If you do use the balanced input, make sure the device that the signal is coming from is also balanced. Connecting unbalanced to balanced or vice versa can give you much more hum. Generally unbalanced connections are high impedance and balanced connections are low impedance. Mismatching impedances generally causes noise and hum. In extreme cases it can even damage equipment, though that's probably very unlikely with modern equipment. |
