Subject:audiophile + sb live together : how?

hey all.

i just got the Audiophile soundcard, installed it without problems and it works perfectly in all my audio software. i'm very happy i finally got it. :)

my previous sound card is a SB Live with breakout box, and it's still in my computer. my plan is to use the Live for regular stuff like games and mp3, and keep the Audiophile specifically for music creation.

however, this leads to the problem of which card to send to the receiver. i only have one cable. so my guess is the sound from the Live should somehow go thru the Audiophile to my receiver.

i've read some comments on this forum by people who have succesfully managed to sync these two cards together. my question is, how did you do it? i'd be very happy if someone can explain to me in detail how to set it up. i assume i have to use SPDIF to hook up the 2 cards? and how *exactly* do i need to set up the Audiophile mixer/patchbay?

to be clear, i have tried several forum searches to see if my problem had been answered before, but even though i got some hits on 'audiophile', all of them had to do with specific soundcard/driver issues, and not with getting 2 cards in sync.

any info is highly appreciated!

thanks for reading,
-ATP

I don’t think the Live! Gives you any sync options. If you’re using if for gaming, the sound quality isn’t as critical anyway. So, I recommend using the analog out of the SB into the analog in of the Audiophile.

thx for the info! your suggestion hadn't even crossed my mind yet. :)

funny thing is, it doesn't seem to work. i connect the Line Out from the Live into the 2 analog In's from the Audiophile, but no matter how i set up the Audiophile's patchbay/router, it doesn't receive the output from the Live. i checked to see whether the Live was outputting something in the first place, but that's not it. when i put my headphones into the Line Out of the Live i do hear sound.

any suggestions?

ok folks, i fixed it. turned out i was running incorrect drivers for the SB Live. i had installed the 35.21 Station drivers, which were the root of the problem here. i downloaded the latest drivers from the official site and now i finally receive input in the Audiophile's Monitor Mixer. :)

but thanks for reading/replying. :)

I'm probably jumpin' in too late but. If you can get S/PDIF cables to run outta the Live into the 2496 why can't you get a second set of cables to hook into the "receiver". I'm assuming you are speaking of an audio receiver which must have more than on set of available inputs, and even if there are only one set of input points you can get a splitter (cable to split two inputs into one). Perhaps I'm confused but normally receivers have various inputs,(Tape,CD,Video,Phono)plug one card into a different input, use the selector on the receiver to change. I've got three cards in my system, One card Audigy goes to multi-media sound system, with a three way splitter so I also have input from the others. Second card Delta 66 goes into Roland VM3100 Digital mixer, third card AP 2496 goes into Mackie 1202, than back into the Roland.
