Hello all. I'm new to this particular forum, but not to the Acid family since I do use Acid 4.0 and reside at their forum rather frequently. I've been contemplating purchasing Sonar 2.0 for some time now but realized that the software does not include any mastering capabilites. I was wondering if SoundForge 6.0 Studio(that came bundled with my Acid 4.0 Pro Software) could be used to master, let's say, a 10 track song created in Sonar? Any takers? Thanks in advance.

peace,
Antonio

Mastering Yes!!! What you can't do with it, is assemble tracks and do crossfading edits very easily and then burn a Disk-at-once Redbook audio CD. For that you'll have to then purchase CDA 5.0 or Vegas Video 3.0. This has been one of my complaints, and think this ability should be built into sound forge where the majority of the mastering work is done. Other users keep telling me I'm wrong that they prefer to have a seperate app like CD Architect do this part of it. But similar posts from users like yourself seem to disagree with their statements.

Here read up on some of these discussions I've had about this, and you decide what you think is the best approach. There's one in the CD architect forum and one in the Vegas audio forum.

Another one of my complaints, red. I haven't ever been able to get the last cd architect I had in sf4.5 to work. This should be a FREE upgrade for all 4.5 purchasers AT LEAST because of the fact that it crashed so many systems. Now they want another $150 SO i CAN TRY THAT FUN STUFF AGAIN? I will soon bag this whole product line and invest in something else, but until then just let me vent my frustration and just ignore me, thank you. I just hate to see a good product go down the tubes like this.

Hmmmmmmmmm, crossfading edits, huh? I'm not sure what you mean by that. But if I can master with Studio 6.0 then you've answered my question!!! Thanks man.....

"Crossfading edits". If you want one song to fade out while, one is fading in....quite like you hear on the radio and you want the beats to line up of the two different songs...then this is quite tedious in sound forge.

Sound Forge was originally developed as a stereo editor mastering tool, and from there it has progressed to a web media solution for some, but the core of it has always been a mastering tool or simple 2 track recorder/editor for others. Part of the mastering process is "assembling" the tracks in the order you want them and creating a master CD, which can be used by duplication houses to mass produce the music. This assembly part can't be done in Sound forge, but the Mastering "Processing" can be.

I hope that clears things up for you.

Can't I use my VV3 for the "assembly part", then burn with CDA 5...see, that was the point I was wanting to make many times before in the different forums: pencil/paper then acid4, then sf6 then assemblage in vv3 and burn to cda 5...that seems like a vaible setup, but I was berated by many...prolly the MAIN reason I got VV3 in the first place wasn't for video apps at all (altho not to poo-poo that), but for the audio capabilities and assembling collections of my songs...am I wrong...?

Thanks 'rednroll'!! So basically, in summary, is it safe to say that Studio 6.0 will provide my mastering capabilities(equalization, normilization, compression, etc)for each of my already mixed Acid songs?? If that's the case, I think I'll be fine, because I usually fade out the ending of my songs in the mixing phase anyway, and do track-at-once burning until all of my songs are burned to cd. Thanks for the reply. You'll prolly hear from me again! Have a good New Year!

"Can't I use my VV3 for the "assembly part", then burn with CDA 5...see, that was the point I was wanting to make many times before in the different forums:"

You must have been posting your questions in the CDA forum, where those wankers over there keep trying to convince themselves that they made a worthwile purchase although, they already have Sound Forge and Vegas Video.

If you do your assembly in Vegas....as I also do. Then you don't need to bring your assembled tracks over to CDA 5.0 at all. Once you have everything assembled in Vegas, then you can burn your redbook compliant CD within Vegas. Unless you like to waste time by doing the same work twice. If you desire to use a plugin chainer as in CDA, then do an "open copy in sound forge" and use the plugin chainer within there, or you can also do the same thing within Vegas using Track inserts or FX busses, or even using the "apply non-realtime FX".

CD architect is a good welcome back, but if you already have Sound Forge 6.0 and Vegas Video 3.0, you are gaining nothing by adding this program to your arsenal. The only ones that would gain anything are users that use other programs like Sonar, Cool Edit, Logic and such.
