Subject:I *know* it can't be this complicated, but...

Hi - I know you old professionals must love the new guys who just got a setup to play with for Christmas - but I'm ready to pull my hair out here.
I'm using a Roland PC-70 MIDI keyboard controller (which I can't even seem to find info about on the Roland site - go figure) and Acid Pro 4.0/Sound Forge Studio 6.0. I've got a few main problems: 1. When I try to record a MIDI, I can't hear what I'm playing (I can't hear it when I try to play it back, either, although I can see where I've played the notes); 2. I can't choose different instruments/voices, even though it lets me highlight the voice number - all it plays is the default piano; 3. There's a marked delay between what I'm playing (when I do manage to stumble on the obscure combination of options that lets me hear what I'm playing), and also a crackling noise that isn't present while I'm playing sound through any other application.

Can anyone give me a little insight as to what could be going on? I'd appreciate it.

Hey Minkie, I am one of the new guys who got Acid Pro 4.0/Sound Forge Studio 6.0 for christmas... but I'm not just gonna play with it for a couple of weeks and forget about it, haha. Anyways, in response to Problem 1, the same thing happened to me earlier today. I noticed I had Winamp open at the time (it wasn't playing, just open) and when I closed that, I could hear everything fine again... I'm no expert, but maybe Acid won't play sound if another application is running that also requires the use of the sound card. This is a guess, but it worked for me.

Good luck,
Tom

I think groove's answer to Question 2, was actually in response to Question 3 :). As far as question 2 goes, I'm assuming you haven't downloaded the latest update 4.0b (Click on Download at the top of the screen, click updates, and the one for Acid 4). You can change the DLS synth from the default piano in 4.0 and 4.0a, but it's a process. In 4.0b, you can just click on the DLS instrument you want and it will play.
