Subject:Random MIDI dropout ACID4.0b Posted by: Epic909 Date:12/27/2002 11:06:06 PM I am getting random midi dropout in ACID 4.0b. I am importing MIDI files created in Cubase VST. The timing is rock solid, but at any random point in the timeline, the midi on a track will just stop sending data to my modules. I have experienced this problem on two computers. One, a desktop, using a Steinberg MIDEX8 interface, the other on my laptop using the Midiman Oxygen 8's MIDI output. I am running Windows XP, and all the drivers and OS are patched up to latest versions. Has anyone else experienced this problem or found a solution? Any help is greatly appreciated.

In SampleTank, I sometimes have to increase the polyphony notes from 32 to 48 to get my pieces to play without dropout. I don't really understand all this, but one thing I discovered you can do is use restricted polyphony to output alternative textures from existing midi files. I was testing some free plugin the other day (maybe it was the FreeAlpha VSTi), and what was playing did not reflect what was in my file; but it was a very interesting little drone-like texture. I checked the polyphony, and it was set to 8. When I upped the polyphony setting, more of the file played. But cutting it back allowed me to render out this interesting texture for mixing into the piece. I want to learn more about how to manipulate polyphony and would be interested in others' tips and tricks. Diane

I know that I am well within the polyphony limits of the external gear. Since the MIDI tracks play fine in Cubase VST, I know its not a hardware issue. The problem is definately related to ACID - I just cannot seem to figure out the exact cause.
