Subject:SoFo, what if we were nice?

Santa brought me a new computer this year, and the old one is going to sit there doing nothing but running our home network. I was nice!

It just never dawned on me until this very moment that I was not going to be able to transfer my copy of Acid to the new machine. It does not recognize my serial number and authorization codes because, I expect, it's set up to match my hardware.

Because I know a lot of people are going to be in this same boat, I wonder if you can tell us what the solution to this is? I'm not trying to install Acid on more than one machine; just trying to move it. If I'm going to have to buy another copy, I can tell you that I won't be using Acid anymore.

to quote the customer service registration fax:

"What is an activation code?
An activation code is used to fully enable your Sonic Foundry product. Your activation code is generated using your serial number, which always remains the same, and your unique Computer ID.

Serial number + Computer ID = Activation Code

When do I need a new activation code?
You will need to obtain a new activation code if you install a new version of Windows, change the lettering of your hard drives by adding or removing hardware, install the application on a new computer, or reinstall Windows after a system crash."

So you need to get in touch with SoFo customer service and get a new code for the new machine. It shouldn't cost you more than the phone call.

I've moved most of my SonicFoundry software from one computer to another several times. I've entered my serial number, then registered online to get a new activation code automatically. Never been a problem and it's worked every time.

Yeah, ditto...I have moved around often and change hard disk several times (maybe more then 5 times?) and never had a problem.

Oh, it worked! I just registered online instead of entering the codes manually and now I'm a happy camper. Thanks, folks.
