We've been through this before but with the release of the 5.1 encoding tool for ACID, which is a CREATION app, and the obvious fact that 5.1 encoding belongs far more logically in a PRODUCTION app like Vegas [audio-side], I believe SF needs to re-examine the issue. As a crude statistic, we could look at the forum stats, though only SF really knows how accurate or meaningful these stats are: 4351 Acid posts 672 Vegas Audio posts 7854 Vegas Video posts Seems to me that's a good reason why SF is putting so much energy into Acid, and so little into the audio side of Vegas. It would also seem that the poeple using Vegas are mostly Video people. To me the only logical thing to do is to incorporate the multi-track audio recording and editing of Vegas into Acid and turn Acid into one bitchin' meta-app. I know SF has been avoiding this, but my own feeling is that postponing it will now start doing more harm than good. Steinberg (Cubase SX) and Cakewalk (Sonar) have been shamelessly ripping off Sonic Foundry's ideas for several years now. With the fading out of Logic from the PC platform, isn't it time, SF, NOW, to do something about it? DSG |

the vegas forums split a while ago ... this is not a representation AT ALL of sonic foundrys commitment to either app... although I agree that Vegas and Acid must come together at some point. |

I think Vegas 4.0 will look a lot like Acid 4.0 in the near future. I also respectfully disagree on merging Acid and Vegas. Do I want to have to set the project key and tempo in a vegas project and have it mess with the audio? Not really (I still get confused when I put disk based tracks in Acid and forget to set them correctly and the app starts to time shift them). I also think that Vegas has way more power than most Acid users want or know how to use. I'm happy to keep them separate but would love if they talked to one another more fluently. For example, if they could goose the power of the export loops function in Acid and have it also create a Vegas readable file so that I could reuse all my track fx, panning, volume, fx sends, etc. that I created in Acid in Vegas that's pretty much as easy as me using Sound Forge and Vegas as "one" app. Just my 2 cents worth. bgc |

The new owner will determine what comes next, and their existing product line may decide the outcome of Acid's direction. Imagine if Twelve Tone takes over--there's some food for thought... |
