Subject:Problem Updating to 4.0B Posted by: Arno Date:12/18/2002 9:38:14 PM When trying to update from 4.0A to 4.0B I receive the error message: "CRC mismatch" and the installation gets aborted. I tried both the update patch and a a clean install with a full .exe. I have a dual boot system with both Windows 98 and XP (tried it on both) and it doesn't work on either. Does anyone have any suggestions? Arno

I saw it once before, and installing the Windows Installer update fixed the problem. The Windows Installer update can be downloaded from Microsoft's website. Ted

I did manage to get it installed on my Windows XP partition by first installing 4.0A and then using the update patch to update to 4.0B. A clean install of 4.0B didn't work (CRC Mismatch). However, I still can't get it updated on the Windows 98 partition. If I try to install the full program I get "CRC Mismatch" and when I use the update patch, I get a message saying that it can't find "Acid.msi" Where can I find the Acid.msi file? Anyway, I got it working on XP which is most important but I still would like it to work in Windows 98 as well, since I occasionally need to use Windows 98. Arno

CRC most likely stands for Cyclical Redundancy Check, which means that the installer would be comparing it's current contents to what its contents were when we initially packaged it. Likely that something got corrupted during the download process (dropped packet maybe?), but it's odd that it worked on XP. Perhaps the 9x-only portion of the installer is the part that's corrupted?
