manual

"Close disc
Closes your disc without adding any audio when you click the Start button. Closing a disc allows your files to be played on an audio CD player.
"

does this mean if I dont check this i wont be able to play in standard cd player?

with this unchecked I can continue to add files to the disk?

with it checked i cannot continue to add?

Correct.

Although there may be some newer audio players that can handle an unclosed disc. For that matter, even if you don't close the disc, adding more later creates another session on the disc and lots of older players won't see multiple sessions. Personally though, at about 25 cents or less for a disc, i don't worry about being able to add more later. I almost always burn Disc-at-once, which automatically closes the disc when it's finished writing.
