Subject:Acoustic Mirror and Grainy Reverb: advice?

Whenever I try to apply any sonic foundry reverb to my projects I get this grainy
sounding product. Initially it sounds nice, but as the effect discipates--particularly after hitting a loud note--the result is this extremely unnatural sounding decay. Am I applying the effect poorly? Is there a way to remedy this and come up with a subtle, soft reverb that doesn't trail off like the sound of sand being thrown against a wall? Is there a solution or is acoustic mirror just not where it's at in the world of reverb plug-ins?

I find Acoustic Mirror to be excellent in many situations. Generally using it conservatively gives me the best results.

Are you sliding the "Quality" slider all the way to the right (5/slow) for the best results during the processing step?

Have you tried the Sonic Foundry "Reverb" Plugin? Although, Sonic Foundry FX plugins aren't the greatest IMHO, you shouldn't get the grainy sound you're experiencing. Try pulling down the level of the "DRY OUT" to -3dB or -6dB and adjust the "Reverb out" level until you get the mix you want. You are most likely clipping the file on loud parts, therefore giving you the grainy sound you're experiencing. You can do the same thing with the "Acoustic mirror" plugin also depending on what gives you the best results. There's a pretty good selection of acoustic mirror impulses to download, if you haven't already done so. Acoustic mirror will most likely give you a richer reverb sound over the Reverb under the "effects" menu.

Go here and download all the impulses:
