Subject:Warning to Sonar 2.1 users!

I installed Acid 4.0b on my system. It seemed to work okay (Virsyn Tera still does not work with it, Fruity vsti problems remain). I have 4 projects in progress in Sonar 2.1 and went into them to work. None of the plugins would load in those projects and the audio would not play. If I opened a new project in Sonar it seemed to be fine, but existing projects were hosed. I un-installed Acid 4.0b and re-installed Acid 4.0a and everything is back to normal. (Thank God! There are many hours of work in those projects!) SO.......... if you have problems in Sonar after installing 4.0b, just go back to 4.0a and everything should be fine.

Now, SOFO what is the problem? It is clear that 4.0b is overwriting some file that is changing things not only for Acid but other DX audio apps as well.....

Dewaine,
Which plugins are refusing to load? How did you upgrade Acid 4.0?
I used the full ACID Pro 4.0b update and upgraded over my existing ACID 4.0a.
SONAR 2.1 and ACID 4.0b seem to be co-existing fine on my DAW. I have had no problems opening existing SONAR 2.1 projects with many plugins after I updated to ACID 4.0b. At least in my case, it does not appear to be a problem. Thanks for the heads up anyways.

Same here: no problems. . .yet.

I have experienced the problem with some of my projects in Sonar 2.1 -- exactly as described...plugins are not found, and the audio engine won't run. It didn't happen in ALL previous files, and I am running Acid 4a, not b.

Jessariah,
I don't think that is a problem with ACID 4. As far as the audio engine, try increasing the latency slider a notch or two. The more CPU intensive your project gets, the less CPU tolerance you will have at low latencies. Unless you are actually doing live input monitoring or using softsynths in real-time, there is no need for low latencies anyway. You are just wasting precious CPU cycles. I typically increase my latency to >20msec when doing anything else otherwise. In the SONAR 2 folder, you can edit the aud.ini file, the line (StopIfStarved=1), (change the 1 to 0) and then save, this will keep the audio engine from prematurely turning off during periods of high CPU usage. Check the 2.1 readme file for additional audio engine tweaking tips. Unfortunately, the 2.1 update introduced an arbitrary plugin limit, whereby, any plugins above this threshhold would be excluded in SONAR. This has been acknowledged by Cakewalk and will addressed in next months 2.2 update.
Try opening a project in SONAR in safe mode (press the shift key as you open a project file). This will allow you to load your plugins one at a time and maybe help locate the problem. This is not related to ACID 4.0 though. For me, ACID Pro 4.b, has been working fine so far. Much better than any previous version.

Bill,

It's not a latency problem. I've run Sonar on this system since it was Pro Audio 8. I just recently noticed the problem that Dewaine mentioned -- exactly as described. When the project in Sonar is opened, you get a list of plugins that "can't be found" and then when the project loads, the audio engine will not work at all -- as if it's in "perpetual drop out." I didn not have this problem until recently.

I'm not saying that it's Acid's fault, I was just letting people know that the same thing has happened to me. If it IS Acid's fault, it should be addressed.

On another note, I'll try opening those files in Safe Mode and see if I can't clear it up. Thanks for the tip.

I am running sonar 2.1XL and have no known problems after the upgrade to acid 4b. I am using latency setting of 5.3 ms.

yep, I'm having the same problem...I get an error message when I try to open any session that used Sonic plug-ins...something about the parameters being incorrect. Unistalling did'nt help...screwed, blued and tatooed.
