I just noticed 4.0B is posted. I'm at work and haven't had a chance to use it yet. Just wanted to know what people think and what has been improved. M. |

You can see what's been improved by reading the Release Notes on the 4.0b download page. I haven't had a chance to really push 4.0b, but so far it seems to be handling more stably than 4.0a on my system. If you're worried about it, ghost your system, then install 4.0b. 4.0a was buggy big-time. |

What do you mean by "ghost your system"? |

Sorry. Ghosting is something offered by Norton's Systemworks. It allows you to make a complete image (backup) of a drive on your system that you can easily restore. System Restore in Windows purports to do this as well, but I don't use it because Norton does it better. There are other products on the market, too, that allow you to make an image (which is what a ghost is) of your system. A program that does this, IMO, is as essential as a virus-checking program. I keep a current ghost on a separate drive so that if I trash my system, I can easily restore it. (I make it using the "split" command in Norton so it's broken into CD-sized segments.) When I get a really "good ghost," like with all my Windows/Office updates, new software I've purchased, and tweaks just like I want them, I'll burn the ghost to CD or DVD so I've got that additional level of protection. I don't put any data or audio files (which are huge) in a ghost...just the system and main sofware I use all the time. It sure beats having to reinstall programs, keep track of and reenter serial numbers, etc., every time I install some errant program that screws things up. Or do something stupid like install the Surround Sound Plugin Pack (which I'm not registered to use), thereby trashing my first 4.0b install. |

Ya know, whenever I get any kinda update I usually don't have time to tinker, or I just let it set awhile for whatever the reason; alot of times the updates don't pertain to me, but I download it anyway, cuz the "newer the app is", usually, the better. I took off my Quicktime, for instance, gave it another name so it wouldn't keep searching for it, or maybe that was soundforge...heck, I don't know, just download it and shutup, I say... |
