When trying to use the my Event EZbus ASIO Driver with Acid 4.0B, I get the error message "An error has occured while starting playback. A device is not available." Works fine with the Windows drivers. Anyone?

An uninstall and re-install fixed this, but I'm still having my same old ASIO Driver problem with my Event EZbus (here is the thread to my previous posts:

Although I love Sonic Foundry and I realize that my problem may be a unique one, I'm terribly disappointed that my Event EZbus ASIO Driver problem hasn't been addressed (although Peter did attempt to help me a while back). Oh.....and before anyone says it.....yes, I've already e-mailed tech support about my problem (just like the with the first and second release of Acid 4.0).

Well, I just add my first problem too, even though unrelated…

“The Set Default Track Properties dialog now allows you to set default OPT editors for MIDI tracks."

I set a third party OPT plug-in (the GenieSys MIDI editor) as a default editor, and now I’ve lost the General Properties editor. Not in the list.

I have the same issue...It's not letting me have more than 3 opt tabs at once. I can reorganize them and the 4th one always dissappears after I close and reopen acid.

After swapping opt plugins I would always right click on the midi track and select "Set Default Track Properties" and click the "midi editors" checkbox once to unclick it then another time to place a check in the box. After that I clicked ok.

I tried to have the general tab as the fourth one and it too dissappeared...COMPLETELY!!! When I saw it was gone I just thought that all I would have to do was just click on the midi editors button in the track properties dialog and "re-select it"[like the others] but it didn't even give me that option. After opening and closing acid, trying out different stuff it finally came back. Won't try that again...;)

Thats it so far though. I'll post back if I find some more...Looking good so far with everything else[knock on wood].

Quick question...

When I drag a midi file into the track list and go to select a soft synth by way of clicking on the "device selection button" I would choose mda piano then click ok...I press play and I don't hear anything. I then click on the "device selection button" again and select "mda piano" from the drop down list. Why the extra step? Why not when I choose a soft synth it is immediately assigned to the midi track.

It would be like adding a reverb plugin to an audio track..selecting ok...then clicking on the effects tab so that you could "enable/unbypass" the plugin so that you can hear the results...Am I making any sense?

First, can somebody tell me where in 4.0b you set the default OPT plugin/Midi Editor? I'm just not seeing it (then, again, I'm half blind).

When setting up my Preferences in 4.0b, I selected Asio Echo WDM driver instead of Classic to see what would happen, and I got the same crash the rest of you are reporting. I don't understand how these things work, so I figured it wasn't legal to select that. But if it should be legal, and it's just crashing, I'd like to be able to fix it. I assume I'll get better performance if I use that driver?

My first issue with 4.0b is that I also installed the Surround Sound Plugin, not realizing it was an extra program. When I started playing SampleTank in Acid, I got this swelling taking-off kind of sound and I thought "Oh, no!" Then it hit me and I reinstalled without the Surround Sound plugin. No problem with playback now! :)

SoFo ought to put that download on a different page from Acid so idiots like me won't do this.

I haven't been able to work much in 4.0b yet because I'm embroiled in something else. But that default plugin and driver issue are ones I'll be following closely.

WRT the EZ Bus... We're working with Event to obtain a solution for this.

WRT how to set the default MIDI Editors on tracks, do this.
Double-click a MIDI track header, and choose the OPT Editors button, and arrange them so that they're in the order you'd like them.
Then right-click on the track left area, and choose Set Default Track Properties...
Then make sure MIDI Editors is checked.
Your first three MIDI editors will be saved.

This is an improvement over previous versions, but losing the General page was not part of the design. We'll extend this functionality further for 4.0c, and make sure that the General page cannot be removed.

Resetting your prefs by holding Ctrl+Shift while opening the app will allow the General page to show up by default again.

Best wishes,
Joel

Joel,
Thank for finally giving me some information on my Event EZbus problem. Please, if at all possible, keep me up to date as to what is going on with the ASIO fix. VSTi is basically usless (timing wise) without it.

Thanks,
Merlyn

Joel, thanks! That works like a charm. I was hoping it would work for tracks in new projects as well, and it does! Yay! General, List, and Geniesys Midi Editor are what I'm using, so three gets the job done for me.

I'm weird, I guess, but I never was able to get into Piano Roll editing. After getting used to reading traditional scores, my brain just can't seem to make the shift.
