You mean the "Report Problem to Microsoft" email that XP sends out? I've gotten where I "Don't Send" that anymore when a program (Acid, whatever) crashes, because once you've sent it once, it doesn't seem to be sent out a second time; just takes time to go through its little analysis routine. If it's never crashed before, I send it. I think there is a way you can disable this reporting feature somewhere deep in XP. I found it one time and unchecked it, but then I later had to restore from a ghost and couldn't find it again. How do you know an email is sent to Sound Forge (or did you mean Sonic Foundry)? I'm always connected to the Internet, and the email reports just go, so I don't see anything in Outlook that would indicate how or to whom the email has been sent. But I've often wondered if those error reports are CC'd to the vendor of the program that crashed...so they would have feedback on how their program is working with XP and be able to correct it. Maybe somebody from SoFo would know the answer to this. As far as why you're crashing to start with, I don't know. I got fewer crashes with 4.0a than 4.0, but I still crash at times. I'm hoping 4.0b will be more stable and less buggy. |

To disable error reporting in XP: 1) Go to control panel and open 'System' OR right click on 'My computer' and choose 'properties' 2) click on the 'advanced' tab in the system properties box. 3) click on the 'error reporting' box and adjust. Mike K |

Thanks, Mike. I disabled just programs. If Windows crashes, I want them to know about it! :) Diane |

i'd try hitting http://www.musicxp.net/ and making sure your computer is optimized for audio. if you're recording a lot of audio you really should have a drive just dedicated to audio. if you trying to record to the boot drive and it hasn't been defraged that could easily create an error. or it could be you audio driver settings in acid check those as well. good luck |

"hi coolout" Thanx for the reply !! i think most of the possible options that you stated could be relevent but in regurds to defrag thats a frequent process i always keep on top of,and as for recording lots of audio, this is the first time ive tryed to record direct audio, usually i just record midi in A4.0!! and as for disk space ive got over 20gigs spare!!i have recorded in soundforge without a hitch !!so trying to fix a problem with my system would be a wild goose chase..... Ah AH!! just as i was typeing this i checked in the prefrences and there's a drop down menu for audio device type, with the options, microsoft sound mapper(which was selected) and windows classic wave driver,,this should have been selected!! But im still getting the problem of totaly un even output meters on the record window?? Thanx for the help!! |
