When using sf6 in sonar2xl to edit mulitiple waves, all except the first wave do not import back to sonar. Have been doing this for years since sf4 and cake8 and never had any problems, what's up with 6.0? I have the most current build of sf6. Thanks in advance for anything you know about this. |

Note that Sound Forge 6.0 no longer has a Direct mode, due to it's new non-destructive nature. Changes in Sound Forge must be saved before you'll hear the results in Sonar. Or are you referring to something else? J. |

I do save the changes I want. When I click back into sonar after saving, Sonar prompts to tell you that x wave file has changed the file has changed and do you want to use the new file or the old file. It even gives a "yes to all" option, which I have used a million times before in previous versions. Just doesn't work in 6.0d. Should reinstall? |

Perhaps Options->Preferences->File->Keep media files locked is checked? If you can open the file in Media Player and hear your changes (after saving, of course), that would lead me to believe it's a Cakewalk issue. J. |

Same problem here. Drives me nuts. I suspect it's new with 2.1. Also I frequently get no audio re-appearing in Sonar after processing in SF. I re-import data (any data), immediately exit and voila!, there is the original processed data back in Sonar. I am beginning to think that this is a function of Sonar's autosave. Any ideas on this I'd love to hear. Weka |

I had no problems doing this in 5.0, so I suspect 6.0. They have to be aware of it. Anyone from SF monitoring this board??????? |

Opening an audio clip from a SONAR 2.1 project into SF6.0d from the Tools menu, editing, saving, and then clicking OK to import the changed file back into SONAR is working fine for me. I am not sure what the problem would be in your case though, but the SONAR 2.1/SF6.0d combo is working, as expected, on my system. Billy Buck |

It's importing multiple files that's the problem - 3 0r 4 at once. Only one is coming back. Test that for me will you please? Thanks Weka |

Weka, You are right about editing multiple files. Once opened in SF (5 or 6), when I hit play, I keep getting an error message, stating "Delta playback device does not support any of the following parameters(sample rate, number of channels or bits per channel)". Although, I can open and play these same files if opened in a single fashion. To be honest, I don't normally open but one file at a time for editing purposes anyway, so this is not a big deal. I never really had a need for editing multiple files at once, so this is new for me. In what context, would you need to edit multiple files at once? Billy Buck |

So ......... axiom of equality, 2.1 must be the culprit as this was never a problem previously with Sonar 1.3 and SF 5.x and 6.b. No?? I frequently call in multiple clips of vox or guit to tune or noise strip or whatever. Used to do it all the time. But SoFo and Cake tend to blame each other for these sorts of things. Witness the SF plugs in Sonar. (I'm sure the plug thing is a SF problem as all other plugs work just fine in Sonar. No.??) Thanks for checking that out for us. Weka |

I do a lot of sessions with multiple background vocals, 30-40 part per chorus, etc. I record without outboard fx, so once I get the tracks in and do a few measurements, I blow them all into sforge and do some noise gating, some sub low end reduction with the paragraphic, and a slight bit of compression. Selecting a new clip, going to the tools menu, selecting sf6 in sonar, for 20-30 files when I used to be able to select all 20-30 files at one time, edit them in sf, and they would all come back in to sonar with the "yes all" box. A very time saving feature is now gone for me. Come on now, I know for certain I am not the only frickin person in the universe doing this. Anyone else out there know what I mean? |

Well I guess I can keep btt until Sonic or somebody else at least verifies this and lets us know what, if anything can be or is going to be done about it. |

Boy, I just tried to do this in Sonar 2.0 and SF6.0d, and sorry, but I'm going to need your help on this, because I've already spent almost an hour and don't have time to do the learning curve in Sonar to figure out how to export and re-import multiple files. "Blow them all into sforge" assumes a lot of experience with Sonar, and leaves a lot of room for speculation on how one would go about doing this." Please give an exact repro of how you're doing this, and explain it reeeeal slow, as if you're telling somebody who's been too busy with SF apps to conquer the Cakewalk learning curve. If somebody does, we'll hopefully be able to get more to the bottom of this. Thanks, Joel |

Highlight a few audio clips in Sonar by clicking onto them whilst holding Ctrl. Then ... go to the Tools menu. You should see "Sound Forge” appear at the bottom of Tools. Click that and each clip will load itself into SF with the last one showing and the others underneath. Process each file in SF and exit as you do so. Having processed the last clip, exit SF and you will be thrown back into Sonar where you will be asked to re-import your clips. Only one will arrive - the rest go down the gurgler! |

I was having the same problem, but with 6.0a. From the posts I have been reading, I am glad I have not yet updated my SF to 6.0d. I realize this is an older post, however, I must give "kudos" to Sonic's post on 12/18/02. Checking the Options->Preferences->File->Keep media files locked is what solved the problem for me. And, though I did not personally know how to solve the problem (I did try), I knew it had to be something simple. |

I don't suppose anyone has asked Cakewalk tech support about this. I see similar issues in Sonar 2.0, but I just don't see it as a Sound Forge problem. Sound Forge opens the correct "Tool copy X of whatever.wav" and edits and saves it just fine (you can re-open it from the quickfile menu to verify your changes, play the tool copy file in Media Player, and even look at the file props in Win Explorer to verify there's nothing fishy about file times). Sonar just isn't picking up on the changes. I can only guess at how they attempt to detect changes and what they do when they detect them, but apparently it's not working in all cases. Yes, there were changes to file handling between 5 and 6. We open and read the original file when we need to. We close it when we don't (precisely to *cooperate* with other applications). We write to it when you save. That's it. The root of the matter is this: Sound Forge will open, edit, and save the file it's given. That's all it does. J. |
