i have a pinaacle tv tuner card that captures at mpegII res. I have a clip that I brought into vegas video to edit. What I would like to know is sice the clip is in mpegII format, when I render the clip out again with my edits to mpegII format will it recompress the videos again that I brought in the first time. Is this double work. Thanks in advance.

MPEG will always be recompressed by Vegas, no way around it.

Hi,

I ran into the same thing capturing with my Sony Vaio Gigapocket software. Though I can export the capture to DV AVI format it takes longer. The only solution to edit an MPEG2 and not recompress is to use an MPEG2 Editor. The problem in this lies at the fact that you won't have near the flexiblity that Vegas offers in effects, transitions, and titling, as well as more advanced editing like audio sync, a/b roll editing, and so forth. But to do straight cuts or simple transitions, like editing out commercials in captured TV programs, an MPEG2 editor can save you a heck of a lot of time. You can do a quick edit and then burn right to DVD!!! Mediaware Solutions probably has one of the best, called M2-Edit Pro 4.0, but this baby will cost you around $800 bucks, they also have another Home Version, I believe around $99 or $129, that is called MyFlix XE. Hope this helps.
