from manual

"Once you modify the properties of a track, ACID saves the information with your project, but does not alter
the original media file. If you want, you can save your changes to the media file as well."

so if I set a root note, number of beats the file is "acidized" in the current session?

if i do this and hit save button it is "acidized" for other projects and program?

if I then set root not to "none" I have un-acidized it?

A root note of "none" can still be acidized if it has number of beats and bpm in the meta data -- ie just about every percussion/drum loop.

As for your other questions, in theory you are right. I've never acidized a file in Acid, so I don't know for sure.
