I'm from Holland, and about half a year ago, i bought Sound Forge 5 and also the noise reduction plugin. I have experimented a half year with this program, and i tried almost every possibility to get a good performed noise reduction. Unfortunately i found out that the results of the noise reduction possibilities were much less than i had expected before. Most importing thing what troubles me is that after getting rid of the slightest bit noise, the orginal sound will become always much less clear very quickly. After i tried (like I said) almost every possibility with the noise reduction plugin also in combination with the three different equalizers, i even found out that the result after using for example the parametric (or paragraphic) equalizer ALONE is even better then the combination of both nois red. plugin and the equalizer (or even the noise reduction plugin alone). I know that to get rid of noise, it always will cost quality of the original sound but i realy had expected a better performance. I am using the program for some 40-years-old-tapes (lot of tape-hiss) with family-voices on it. My question is the following: Does somebody know if there exsists perhaps a better program for noise reduction than the one i use now, and does somebody know if there might be very specialized professional institutes in the world who can deal very good with the problems i have ? (Would they maybe use another program than sound forge noise reduction ) ? I look forward to an answer. Best regards from Jochem de Graaf from Holland

You are probably doing something incorectly, SF-NR can remove tape hiss and other constant type noise with minimal change to the orginal file. Sometimes it helps to do two steps in increments of -10db, opposed to -20 or more, if you are getting unwanted artifacts such as a flanging type sound. I have not used Sonic Solutions, Cedar, Waves or Cool Edit-pro, but I think the results would be simular.

Changing lots of things in the noiseprint didn't make it better. Maybe I still should try another program ? I'm an older man and my hearing is not as good as it once was. Could you send me a sample of one of your noisy tapes? Do not do anything to it except convert it to a high quality OGG or MP3. Read the help file or manual carefully for sampling the background noise you would like to remove.

You are probably doing something incorectly, SF-NR can remove tape hiss and other constant type noise with minimal change to the orginal file. Sometimes it helps to do two steps in increments of -10db, opposed to -20 or more, if you are getting unwanted artifacts such as a flanging type sound.
