I like that soundforge finally has customizeable toolbars. however, there are several functions i use *constantly* that it won't let me add to a custom toolbar. i'd like to have buttons for zoom out full (time) and zoom out full (level). annoyingly i have to go up to the pulldown menus to do this. i've messed with the custom views, but those can only be set for the current file, and have to be manually done with each file, which is a pain. why not do like most if not all other programs that allow customizeable toolbars, and if a command exists on a toolbar menu, make a button for it?? the other one i need is paste special>crossfade. |

While they're at it, and I might have missed it, and I cannot believe it's not available, but keystrokes for fade in and fade out...How can these not be obvious and available???? It's a primary editing function. If you know how to find these please let me know. thanks sk |

well, you can automatically Zoom Time In Full by pressing CTRL + Up Arrow. If you press CTRL + Down Arrow, it will Zoom Time "Normal" ... defaulting to whatever the default ratio is set as in preferences. Stupidly, that setting cannot be changed to something like "out full no matter how big the sound file is" - no, it has to be a damn numeric ratio. Pressing Up Arrow by itself will Zoom Time In by increments, and Down Arrow will Zoom Time Out by increments. Pressing SHIFT + Up Arrow will Zoom Level In by increments, and SHIFT + Down Arrow will Zoom Level Out by increments. There are *NO* keyboard shortcuts or toolbar button options, apparently, for Zoom Time Out Full or Zoom Level Out Full. I can't believe such a glaring oversight. The only workaround I've been able to come up with is to change your "Normal Zoom Ratio" setting in Preferences>Display to "1:8,388,608" (who comes up with these wacko ratios?). Then any file you open will default to what is effectively the Zoom Time Out Full view, and when you press CTRL + Down Arrow, it will revert back to this view. That's all very good for Zoom Out Time Full. And, no matter how much you've zoomed in on the level, pressing CTRL + Down Arrow in the method described above will also zoom your level all the way out. So there's still not a way to just Zoom Level Out Full. Why is this a problem? Let's say I've zoomed in (time) on a 1 minute segment of a 30 minute sound file. Now I zoon in (level) to look at whatever. I can't zoom the level all the way out with a single keystroke or button. If I press CTRL + Down Arrow or use the menu button for Zoom Normal, it will not only zoom the level all the way out, it will also zoom the time all the way out ... meaning I'd have to RE-zoom back to that 1 minute segment. Sloppy. Hope they do something about this in the next version. Good windows design rule of thumb: if you're going to have a customizable toolbar, make EVERY menu command available as a separate button. And for those of us that are much faster with keystrokes than with mousing, have a separate keyboard shortcut for EVERY menu command. |
