Subject:Acid 3/Delta 1010 popping in record

I'm a longtime Acid user, but I've got a problem I can't seem to solve. When recording, either analog or digitally through my Delta 1010, I get terrible digital noise in Acid. The sound is a sort of bzzzpppp that occurs in the file only when music is present, not in the silent passages. This occurs only in Acid, not Sound Forge. I have updated drivers and used two different Delta 1010s, so this doesn't seem to be hardware. I have Win 98SE. Using the same computer and HW I have for almost 2 years. It doesn't happen always, but more times than not.

I've also noticed that it usually happens after there is at least one track recorded and I'm laying down a new one.

Please help!!!!

i tried muting all playback tracks while recording another track into ACID and, sure enough, the new track recorded without the popping i complained of. unfortunately, this is like driving at night without headlights. but it is a clue...

any ideas?

If it doesn't happen every time, it sounds like something else might be getting in the way, like something running in the background or another device in your system requesting the same resources your Delta is on.

Try doing the three finger salute (CTRL+ALT+DELETE) and closing everything except "Explorer" and "Systray" and try recording in ACID again. Also be sure the Delta has an IRQ all its own.

Are you trying to use two delta's in the same machine? You may want to check out this thread.

Otherwise, I'm not sure what it would be. I have a Delta 1010 at home, and haven't ever come across this problem with ACID 3 on a P3-700 (used to be a 350mHz). What video card are you using?

Hey guys, thanks for replying!

mD: yeah, i always close everything but systray, explorer and the system resource meter. the delta does have its own irq.

Joel: i'm using a system configured for audio recording by a company called DAWG USA. it's a pIII 800 with 512 mb ram. matrox dual head card.

here's an interesting aspect. on a previous project i added a second delta 1010--and we started having this problem. after that project was done, i removed the second 1010, but the problem is worse than ever at this point.

I've been doing a lot of research recently as I'm thinking about getting a 1010. Anyway I've read numerous times that VIA chipsets and Delta don't get along. Here's some of what I've found....
Some users don't use the midi port
on the 1010 because it causes them clicks in the audio. The limited use I
give the midi port has not caused me any real greif, but you may need an
additional midi I/F if you do a lot of midi. My advice is that if you are
going P3/P4, go with an Intel chipset, and if Going Athlon, go with the SIS
735/745 chipset. If you already have a system with a VIA chipset, you may
not get 100% solid performance...

Also I've read about some BETA drivers at the M-Audio site that provide better VIA support
