Subject:ACID doesn't always recognize automatable effects

Is there something I need to do to get ACID to recognize my effects that are automatable? They load fine and work fine in ACID, except that most of the time they won't be recognized as automatable. Sometimes it will recognize it right away, sometimes they just randomly start becoming automatable after I have had them loaded for a while, and sometimes it just won't ever see that they should be automatable. This has happened with most effects that should be automatable, lots of freebees, but even some commercial ones like Ohmforce and the Waves demo. |

With the Ohm Force stuff I found that once you have automated them in a track Acid then recognises that they are automatable, same thing goes for the other VSTs fx I use What wrapper are you using FXpansion or Directxer, Im using and old v3 Ithink of FXpansion Ian F |

ACID 4.0 doesn't query the effects until you try to load them. When you call up an effect, ACID will "shake hands" with it, and try to find out if it's automatable or not. If yes, then it'll show up as automatable. If it were to check the plug-ins on startup, there would be two problems, potentially. First, if you have any *poorly behaved* plug-ins, ACID would crash on startup, which would be most unpleasant. Second, it would take longer for ACID to load up if it needed to query for this interface every time you call it up. Hence, we don't check until you specifically go try it. Joel |

Hmmm.... that seemed to work for some, but it still didn't recognize any from the Waves demo or Frohmage, Mobilohm, or Ohmboyz. Mobilohm and Ohmboyz are the "Standard" version, but it was my understanding that the only performance difference between Standard and Expert was 16 bit vs. 24 bit rendering. I downloaded them all as DirectX so I'm not using these specifically with a wrapper. Actually the VST effects I'm using with the FXpansion wrapper light, have been pretty good about recognizing the automability (if that's a word :)) of effects. Would it maybe be because they are DirectX for some odd reason? Thanks for the replies. |

Spectre, Frohmage is not Direct-X automatable. It's MIDI automatable. The differance is that instead of using Direct-X language to automate the parameters through the track envelopes, it instead must recieve MIDI input via CC's or NPRN's using a MIDI controller. So yes, it is automatable, but not in the sense that the others are. It automates more like a VSTi. I'd imagine the other Ohmboyz plugins are the same. If you need help getting this setup to work or another explanation, let me know and I'd be glad to help. - Nick |

OK, cool that makes some sense. I'm currently lacking a hardware MIDI controller, but I asked my GF for Oxygen8 for Christmas so perhaps very soon. But I defintely would appreciate some tips if you have the time. MIDI is a new adventure for me and I've only just skimmed the surface. Thanks. |

I'm surprised that the Waves plug-ins didn't show up as automatable... If you have Waves 3.5 or later, they should. Other DX plugs that are automatable include: some from Sonic Timeworks, some from DSPFX, which I believe came with Sonar, the Lexicon PSP 42, Spaztech FilterKing, Izotope Ozone 2.0, and a variety of VST effects when run through a VST adapter.
