In a new session the first recorded file that I 'Save As' pops up an error message at the moment the 'buiild peaks' function would normally execute. File can subsequently be loaded OK, and peaks then build. Sorry, can't remember the exact error msg - it's at a different site .... Any ideas ? geoff PS, i *still* get bits of windows left uncleared in the SF disply area. |

The error msg reads: "An error has occurred during the current operation. An error ocurred while writing the file. Make sure you have write access to the file/folder and there is enough free space." I have write access to the disk, file, and folder, and there is heaps of disk space. The file does appear to write correctly, the failure occurs at the point when the peak file would normally build. geoff |

I've been meaning to post on this EXACT same issue. It happens on both our installations of Vegas 6.0d on XP. The systems are not identical hardware wise (Intel and Via) but the problem occurs once every 30 saves or so, for no reason we can determine. The result is the error message and a blank open file in SF, which on reload is the correct saved one, as Geoff indicates. This does point to a potential Forge bug. BTW: why does 8.3 support NEED to be enabled in XP/NTFS for Forge to work properly? Thanks, DSG |

I get the same error with SF 6.0d with SAVE, not SAVE AS. The sound data is written correctly but the region markers are moved. When you open the file subsequently you get an error about an illegal marker. I've got tons of disk space and I certainly have all the write permissions I need. Win2K SP3 on 1.5 GHz P4 with 1 GByte ram. The error msg reads: "An error has occurred during the current operation. An error ocurred while writing the file. Make sure you have write access to the file/folder and there is enough free space." |

I have the same error message from time to time when I Save. The files seem to be saved correctly (I did not check however, I've done a Save As with a different filename for security). I point out that the error does NOT occur each time a file is saved. It depends on the editing action(s) done, maybe. Obviously, a bug is hidden somewhere... I have an idea of what is happening, but I'm having a hard time reproducing. A few questions: 1) Do you have any idea which specific actions seem to cause it? 2) What is the status of the "Delete temporary files on close" pref? 3) What is the status of the "Hide temporary files" pref? 4) Are the temporary folder and save location on different volumes? I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem Geoff_Wood has but the easiest way to get an error message like that (in the demo version at least) is to make any kind of change to the wav file, for example use DC Offset and then rebuild the peak data. |

I was opening a READ-ONLY file, making a copy, editing the copy and saving the copy as the same file name as the original on a different disk. This resulted in the above error message; but the file window in Forge was not blank after this message and when closing the file in Forge and opening the saved copy, all is ok. I was getting this same error on 4 or 5 files consecutively. HOWEVER: I just tried it again, and it's not doing it! So I dont know what's going on, as I can't get it to occur predictably. 2) What is the status of the "Delete temporary files on close" pref? Checked. 3) What is the status of the "Hide temporary files" pref? Unchecked. 4) Are the temporary folder and save location on different volumes? Drives? Yes. Thanks for the help. DSG |

I have just had the very same problem when I tried to save a newly recorded file. I finished recording, trimmed silence at the ends and did a normalization. I typed the name and during the save the message appeared (the file was saved alright, but not the sfk) and I got the blank screen in SF. -What is the status of the "Delete temporary files on close" pref? unchecked -What is the status of the "Hide temporary files" pref? unchecked -Are the temporary folder and save location on different volumes? no JTelles |

Also experiencing similar problems on completely different machines. Do you have a fix prior to upgrade? When is upgrade scheduled to be released? |

I am trying to record some spoken messages for our class for internet. I am recording directly from casette to hard drive. When I try to save the file as a .wma I get a very generic message "An error ocurred while saving one or more file" (Message missing) Any idea why I can not save as a .wma file? John |

That sounds like the problem we are all having, except that in several cases at least, the file does get saved correctly even though we get the error. Have you checked to see if the file actually got saved? I would assume it didn't because it takes time to convert to wma and you probably would have noticed. Either way, it is a definite bug that is supposed to be fixed with the next version. |

Well that's just great. I have to save these in .wma so I guess I'll have to take off 6.0 and go back to 5.0. At least it could save file. How in the world can you release a progam that won't save Windows Media Files? One would think that quality control would have caught something as important as that! Of course I am assuming there even is software testing. Anyway, thanks. |

Thank you!! I could not 'save' or 'save as' with .wav or .wma files--PERIOD. So far this seems to have fixed the problem. FYI, current system is a dual PIII 933, 2GB RAM, mix of SCSI & IDE HDs, and running a _fresh install_ of XP Pro slipstreamed with sp1 and all the latest updates from 'windows updates'. |
