I would save all my loops to a file on the computer - ste up new song using those files so that every time you open the song, it knows where to hunt for the loop

yeah..ditto that...put ALL your loops in one spot, including the ones you download, and, dare I say, put your "CD loops" on your hard drive(s) as well; sometimes it can be easier and faster to get to, 'course, better to have 7200 rotations as well...put them all under your "sonic foundry folder" and title it...hell, even loops from other "concerns"...my hub is now sonic, but either way, you wanna make them jump out at you when you go to your explorer type menus in your music apps...it might take up some space, but better than gettin a bloody forehead and makin a red spot on the wall...sonic kinda does that with your plugins also, and so does fxpansion with 3d party stuff, which I think is a good idea to have, but still: put it in the hub...
