Subject:SF 6 Not recognizing an installed and valid Video Codec

Hi, I'm bringing in an .avi I created with Camtasia Studio using the TechSmith Screen Capture Codec. The settings are all available: frame rate, fps, etc but when I actually try and save the file I get an error message telling me to install the Codec before saving. I have the codec installed and I've even reinstalled it. The codec of course works when I save from the TechSmtih program. Is there some way I can get SF to recognize this codec? The Sorenson 3 codec works fine for .mov files but I'm trying to save as a Windows .avi file using TechSmith's Screen codec. Thanks! |

I received this from the TechSmith tech support. Does anyone know if this is the case? Thanks! ---- The only other thing I can think of is if these programs are based solely on the QuickTime SDK support for writing AVI files, then you might be out of luck. I think the QuickTime player has a hard-wired list of codecs that it supports, and TSCC is not one of them. Consequently, the QuickTime SDK does not allow you to write an AVI that the Player wouldn't know how to read. Anyways, this is more of a guess because I don't know the details of how these apps are implemented. I'd have to defer to their TechSupport for answers like that. --- |

I'm sorry to follow up so quickly but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on this? Thanks. David |

Sound Forge supported VfW compression manager long before QuickTime, so I don't really see what that has to do with it. FWIW, I just installed the Camtasia Studio demo and TSCC codec and was able to render just fine in Sound Forge 6.0d. I did have to reboot once, but if you were able to save from CS, it's nothing that trivial. J. |
