Is there a way to set a channel on a midi to a 5.1 field? Failing that, is there a way to batch render all channels of a midi file to wav so one can set up 5.1 fields for each instrument separately?

can you write scripts for A4? this would be something that wouldnt be too difficult me thinks..

Believe you have to route MIDI to a soft synth to do that. (The surround panner shows up underneath the soft synth when it's added to the Mixer.)

I don't know about your third question. (Sorry.)

ACID 4.0 does not have scripting on its own. If you're a wiz at using Rational Visual Test or something like that, you're right, it wouldn't be too difficult to create a few scripts. Were you saying that it wouldn't be too difficult for a person to use scripting in ACID if it existed, or that it wouldn't be too difficult for the dev team to implement it? If we implemented it, we would want to make the scripts very easy to use. If we implement it, it would certainly take some time to do it right, and then some other feature request might not happen.

I hope that at least partially answers the question.
