Subject:Digital Distortion when using soft synth

Hey guys...

i tried a soft synth last night, n it worked properly for a while...then when i wanted to render the track, the first note was digitally distorted...i went back to the project, n everytime i clicked "Play from start" there would be a harsh digital distortion, readin +30db on the synths input...

whats the problem? is it just that the synth is not compatible with acid or what?
(i messed around with the buffer, so thats not the problem, also the project doesnt have very many tracks yet, so the ram/cpu shouldnt be a problem either)

Does the first note hit right at the beginning of the sequence? I've noticed slamming velocities on a note played right at the beginning of the first measure. Insert a measure of silence before the first note and you should be fine.

What soft synth are you using in your softwrae Nechromatic? Have you tried raising the playback buffer size on the Audio tab of ACID's preferences? Most VSTi's should not give you any trouble starting at the beginning of the project, however, Laurence's suggestion could help if you find that adjusting the buffer settings in ACID's preferences doesn't help.

I don't think that this problem is so much a buffer over-run issue as it is a "playing a note while sysex and controllers are still being sent" issue. I have noticed similar issues with Sonar and Cubase when you try to play a note right at the beginning of a sequence. At best it will work OK but skew your timing a little. It's best to leave a little space before the first note.

Have you updated to ACID Pro 4.0a yet? This may also help to correct the problem:

A statement about 4.0b would be nice. December? January?

ok i havent tried leaving a lil space before the first note yet, altho i gave somebody else this very advice on here, but with a different problem :D maybe i should practice what i preach ;)

im not sure which synth it was, it was a freeware synth created with synth edit, so maybe its not 100% compatible...but like i said, it worked fine before i used the "mix to new track" ...

its not a problem with the playback buffer, i checked that...could it have sumpn to do with latency? i'm sort of a newbie to this midi thing, so i dunno...

ill tell you if it worked after i tried your suggestions

thanks guys
