Subject:Help! I can't save as a .acd file.

Hi, I'm probably being really thick, but I haven't used my copy of Acid Xpress 2 (build40) for a long time and am having problems saving my work. If I click on Save (or go to shut the program down) I am given a prompt to name the file but only as either a .wma, .asf or a .rm file but not as a .acd type. So I cannot continue my work at a later date, just listen to it as a completed work. As I have had a few computer hassles since last running the program I have removed and reinstalled it all but with no change. So what am I doing wrong? Any advice would be very gratefully received! Cheers, Peter |

Have you tried using the "Save As" dialog instead? Are you able to choose the ACD file type then? Have you tried opening and subsequently saving the project in ACID XPress 3.0? (You probably won't be able to open the project in ACID XPress 2.0 once it's saved in 3.0, so be sure to make a backup just in case.) HTH, Iacobus |

Hi Iacobus , >Have you tried using the "Save As" dialog instead? Are you able to choose the ACD >file type then? Yes, I've tried that too and it was the same- no .acd option. >Have you tried opening and subsequently saving the project in ACID XPress 3.0? (You >probably won't be able to open the project in ACID XPress 2.0 once it's saved in >3.0, so be sure to make a backup just in case.) I'm downloading 3.0 now so I'll try this when I get it later. But the only .acd file I have is the demonstration track that comes with the software as obviously I can't save my own. Cheers, Peter |

It sounds to me like you are using an unregistered/unactivated copy of ACID. Since you say you haven't used it in a long time, it might be that your registration key has been corrupted. You might have to re-register it again to unlock all the features. Normally you should also see .wav and many other times listed as well as .acd and the few you mentioned. The unregistered version (which is basically Express) only allows saving to a few compressed formats. |

I was wondering if that was the case with an unregistered version. It seems like my copy feels it is perhaps unregistered, yet each time I have reinstalled it (quite a few time in the last three days) I am prompted for a new authorisation code that I have to apply for on the website. I put this code in and it says on startup that its registered to me but I still don't have a .acd save option. I'm sure the solution is something simple but its completely stumped me! Cheers, Peter. |

ACID XPress 2.0? That was quite some time ago, so I'm not sure if I'm recalling all the details, but I believe that part of the limited functionality in (at least the initial releases of it) was that it wouldn't save out .acd files, only render out compressed formats. I could be wrong though... If I have time, I'll give it a quick run-thru. Joel |

Thanks Joel, Yes I have had it a few years (since 2000 I guess?) but previously I was able to save .acd files as I had a made quite a few of my own, some time ago (sadly I lost them all when I was foolish enough to put them onto a brand new hard drive that promptly went wrong!). Peter. |

I've just realised (told you I could be thick!) that the progamme I have is Acid 2. The Xpress bit I guess would normally mean that it is the shareware version (or similar)- yet my install, used with the authorisation code says Xpress 2 (although the disc states Acid2 as does the installation window). So for some reason I cannot get the full verion to work. Does this make sense? Peter. |

Yes, ACID XPress 2.0 is the freeware version of ACID 2.0. I just took a minute to check this, and it looks like build 40 (our first downloadable release of any product, from 1999) does indeed only save to .wma and .rm. ACID XPress 2.0d (build168) also saves to the .acd format. I'd suggest that you get the later version, but I don't believe it's available for download anymore. You could try the latest release of ACID XPress (3.0) from http://www.sonicfoundry.com/download/freestuff.asp if you're interested in saving .acd's. Best, Joel |

Thanks Joel, I'm downloading ACID XPress (3.0) at the moment so will give this a go. Cheers, Peter (but I still can't work out why my Acid 2 no longer works though...). |
