I'm having a huge amount of grief these days. I just upgraded my system to an Intel Motherboard (D845PEBT2), P4 2.4GHz, 1GB of DDR333 RAM. Two sound cards: Creative Audigy Platinum, and an M-Audio Audiophile 2496. Running XP Pro. When recording any audio (sometimes in several takes), I usually need to take the stereo file and turn it into mono. No problem. Then I need to normalize to -10db (using the stock filters). Then it hits the fan. At this point SF6.0d either a) crashes because of 'low memory', b) crashes and WinXP wants to send an error report, or c) just soft crashes, which is to say it just unloads from memory and that's it. GONE. Before I upgraded the 6.0d patch seemed to solve the problem (which I was having before the patch). But now it's back and better than ever. Yes, I've uninstalled and reinstalled 6.0/d. Anyone? Help?! |

Sounds related to a channel selection bug that will be fixed in the next update. A couple workarounds to verify: Try using just the status bar for the stereo-to-mono conversion (note, this is a 50/50 mix, which may not be what you want). Or, after the channel conversion, Select All and drag the new mono version to a new window (or copy and paste-to-new), then close the original and work on this new copy. Please let us know your results so we can track this down if it is something different. J. |

The channelconversion in the status bar...works fine. Convert to mono and then normalize and all is well. Copying all and dragging to a new window...no problem. At least I know it's something identifiable and isolated. Thanks much...the mix isn't quite what I'm after, but at least I have a way to get back to being productive for the time being. Thanks again! |

If you don't like the mix you can still use the channel converter. Just drag the result to a new window (or copy and paste-to-new) before performing further operations. It should be instantaneous. It is a dumb bug that never should have escaped, so I apologize for that. It will be fixed in the next update. J. |

Apology graciously accepted. Any (even rough) ETA for the next patch? In all other ways I do really like Sound Forge. I use it in concert with Sonar 2.1, and must say that they're excellent. Sound Forge is especially good processing the rendered files for a radio feature I produce. Is there a patch for the search hang in the help file? Every time I use Search, it just hangs there until I kick it over and have to restart SF. Thanks... Andreas |

Roughly a couple months til next update. The hang is related to QuickTime 5.0 (and earlier). If you don't need QuickTime support, rename qtplug.dll in the Sound Forge installation directory to something benign (e.g. qtplug.xyz). Otherwise, update to Quicktime 6.0 (don't forget to install the authoring components).
