I'm running Win2k with service pack 3 on a P-III 750 single processor machine with 1GB of RAM and only video and audio software installed. Namely, Adobe Premiere 6.0, After Effects 5.0 Pro, Photoshop 6.0, Illustrator 9.0, DVDitLE, TMPEG, TrueSpace 6.0, and a host of plug-ins for each....especially After Effects and Photoshop. Now, after doing nothing except rebooting my system for the next day of business, Sound Forge will not open. It goes to the splash screen and freezes. Not only will it not open, it locks up my mouse, my keyboard and anything else that might get it to un-freeze. I'm using Stealth and Voodoo3 video cards and a IEEE-1394 card and all were supposed to be "approved" hardware. I'm sort of screwed because this is my key program for audio and it seems to NOT like my machine (This is the second time this has happened. The first time I had to do a complete reinstall of the OS and all to get it fixed.). Sound Forge DOES start up in safe mode, but with the lack of audio drivers. Karen

Subject:RE: EMERGENCY!!!! Someone help... Reply by: kryten Date:12/1/2002 10:09:37 AM Boot into safe mode, open SF, then turn off "Show logo splash-screen on startup". Options -> Prefrences -> General (it's the first choice). Reboot and see if the problem persists. I've been hearing of quite a few issues with Win2k SP3 and WinXP SP1 with audio apps.

I was having some problems, and just reinstalled these drivers and things cleared up. Also, goto the Voodoo3 website and make sure you have the latest win2k video driver for the card.

I haven't seen this behavior in the recent releases of Sound Forge, but in earlier releases, if I had some shareware plug-ins around, a nagware screen popped up as SF was loading (behind the splash screen) and the loading process hung until the "Okay" button was pressed. But of course, the splash screen covered the entire dialog box. It may be that SF is hanging on some plug-in dialog box that is covered up.

Apparently, Diamond Multimedia cards aren't supported within the Win2K OS. It looks like I'll be getting my new FireGL card after all. Thanks fella's, Karen
