Subject:Any need for Vegas when you have Acid?

For home recording, one instrument at a time, using just a stereo sound card (ie, only left/right inputs).. what can Vegas do for me that Acid can't? Sorry if the question is a little vague. I have Acid 4.0 now and love the way it works, but for "multitrack" applications, I've heard Vegas is the way to go. If I'm only recording one instrument at a time (as a left/right stereo signal), does it do me any good to get Vegas? Can't I accomplish the same functionality in Acid with One-shots and Beat-mapped tracks? Thanks SP |

I think you're OK with Acid only. If you're not sure, download the demo for Vegas Video. Actually, even before downloading, you can check out the specs of each product and you'll then see what you're possibly missing by not purchasing Vegas. HTH |

Acid is not really equipped to be a multitracker. I guess you can get away with one-shots and so on for a while...but when you want to start editing etc...you will soon find the limitations in Acid to be very annoying. I use both and together they are a formidable team. But each has a specific use in my workflow. Cuzin B |

Vegas is a great multitracker on top of being a good video editing program as well. I recommend it highly!!! Acid is not meant to be a multitracker as much as a great loop tool, although I have used it as such. They both compliment each other greatly!! Cool Edit Wha!!?? |

i've never tried vegas myself but before acid became my main app i was using logic audio for years. i don't see how editing could be more painless than in acid. i've comped vocals and instrument performances much faster than using a traditional midi/audio sequencer just by using the key commands for split, join, and snap to grid, plus using the mouse wheel to resize. i also have full control of the pitch, dynamics, and tempo of the audio at the same time. you didn't like that one note from the bass player right there...split it and change the pitch, volume or envelope on the fly. i don't know if vegas can do that. the only thing i really miss is a traditional mixer page for the tracks. horizontal faders took some getting use to. |

I dont see why there isnt some sort of "rewire" app that can put these 2 great apps together. then it would rock. |

I would suggest Vegas for its multitracking features just as ACID is suggested for its looping features. You basically can't go wrong by having both. You can get away with just using ACID for your setup, but note that ACID wasn't meant to be a multitracker in the truest sense, and your ability to use ACID as such will be limited by the performance of your system. I would also definitely suggest a digital audio editor to go along with it all, like Sound Forge or WaveLab. HTH, Iacobus |

Acid 4, Sound Forge 6 and CD Architect 5 looks to be a NICE combo; still holding on to VV3 tho...actually don't have sonar 131 on my computer now, but that's not to say I may add it again to my ars... |
