In my opinion, the loop subscription program has hit bottom with this month's edge of your seat, a full 123 loops, of Vir Unis Bug Report. Paaaalease!!!!!! It's been going down hill for a while now!!! (From a 2 year subscriber.) No offense meant to Vir Unis either.

"...a full 123 loops..."

You're just kidding right?
See, now that's just plain wrong!
Even this FREE Techno Library from Acidfanatic contains over 400 loops.

Are these loops like 5 minutes long? 24 bit? Is the "2nd...3rd CD" on it's way?

I think that you're missing the point. It's about quality of tracks, not number of tracks. See Ugly Reminants if you want 800 loops...

Seriously, some of these loops are over 15megs. Interesting, shifting stuff. If you don't like it, put it into the chopper. Create something new with it. It's a GREAT companion to Numina (which had roughly the same number of tracks, if memory serves).

It's a shame that I like what I've heard of it so far (about 40 loops as of right now). Why is THIS library such a flashpoint for everyone?? It's libraries like these (Numina, Bug Report, Saturn and Elsewhere, Cinematix, SplatterCell... etc., etc., etc.) that attracted me to Acid in the first place. In a matter of minutes, I can take loops from any or all of these libraries, and create rich, lush, textured beds for my film projects.

(sigh) It's a shame that you guys hate these so much. I guess there's always eBay...

David.

I like that stuff too. I ordered a bunch of it! They do have a lot of sound fx, and I can understand that some might not need so much of that.

This free techno CD from fanatic.....well, lets just say it's a good thing it was free.

As long as the CD has at least 400-500MB......

I don't think MB make any difference -- neither does the length. Look at Pandora's Box. Each loop is a composition in and of itself and the usage agreement scares away anyone who can't afford a lawyer. The reason I like loops is because I DON'T have to sweat the fine print. Some of the earlier libraries want you to give credit out whenever you use them (at least that's how it reads).

Personally, I can't wait to hear a loop I created in someone else's music.

But I digress.

I'm of two minds on this (there's another thread right now that kinda dovetails with this one). I've gotten subscription libraries that I didn't think I'd have any use for. But the point is, I played around with them and wound up buying more along the same genre lines. Others, like Stylus pressure (Jade Hill Rock/Pop guitar falls into this as well) don't work as well for me because they are already put together in "pseudo" song packets. They're even named already. Point of Acid is to write your own music using various elements -- not to remix something that has already been mapped out for you.

Depending on what your taste/needs are, the subscription series is going to be hit-n-miss for most. You still can't beat the price, though, which is why I'll stick with it.

My problem with the loops subscription is the massive number of "non musical" CDs I have gotten in the past 4 months.

I thought the loop subscription was going to cover the entire spectrum but lately it seems to be stuck in the "sound textures" and "weird sounds" category.

I don't need any more of these right now - I would prefer a wider selection - the whole reason I signed up for the loops subscription in the first place.

Now I just got Mick Fleewood Total Drumming in the UPS delivery. Here's a quality sample set with lots of plans written into it. Got a great deal at academicsuperstore.com. Of course I am a teach, so I get a discount. If you are, give a look. Best prices on the planet for acid loops!! Quick delivery as well (less than a week!).
