Subject:Delta beta and 4.0b

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this beta driver being offered for m-audio users. Yes, it works fine for 4.0 but not nice with my other apps. Version 510026 is working the best here. My concern is if 4.0b is going to support the recommended drivers that everyone else uses with maudio (510027 as of this writing), or if midiman will eventually release this as an exclusive acid fix driver. Any ideas?

Im using the beta driver to run my Delta 44 on XP, I dont have any issues with it as I use Acid 4a Fruityloops and Cubase SL without any problems. I was coming at this question from a different direction and wondering when the drivers would move from the beta stage to become the regular driver.

If I remember correctly when Acid 4 came out the impression I recieved was that the problem was with the M Audio drivers and not with Acid so it is unlikely that Acid will be made to work with a 'faulty' version of the drivers.

Actually, I had a problem with the beta Delta ASIO drivers and other apps too (like Sound Forge not playing back files), but a reinstall of any app that was giving me trouble did the trick.

....can't seem to get ASIO 24 bit in Acid, but still works in Cubase demo. I also realized I need to re-send an email about this issue to that "testing@m-audio.com" address, cuz I had used the regular tech support email form.

If the 027 driver from midiman is "faulty", then how come it has been available for many months and working flawlessly in many apps except for Acid? This doesn't add up. It is my understanding that midiman helped out Sonic foundry by making the beta driver. I could be dead wrong. Back to the issue...

Will 4.0b be designed around the "standard" driver offered from Maudio (027) or are we going to have to wait for this "beta" driver to be released as a final?

This is a good question.
I'm hoping SF is taking all this time to release 4.0b due to ALL the SC/driver issues that need "looking into"(to say the least)and not due to waiting on 5.1, which seems secondary. They should be working on version C by now.

I have a bad feeling about this, especially since it's inconsistant from PC to PC.

As far as Im aware nobody knows exactly what the problem was between Acid and the Delta drivers, I certainly don`t, the message from SoFo was that the problem was with the drivers and Ive heard nothing to the contrary. I agree that it is odd that the existing drivers worked perfectly well with other software and not with Acid, but without a clearer understanding as to what the problem was who knows where it originated

3.0 was fine with 027 drivers. No issues. Countless other apps by different manufactures function fine under these drivers. The problem obviously lays within some 4.0 code.

Acid 3 didnt use ASIO. However I totally agree with you I have used Delta drivers with Cubase for nearly two years without any issues until I used ASIO in Acid 4.

I hope Im not comming across as a defender of SoFo, I believe that the state of Acid 4 when it was released was appalling but if the problem was with drivers then what can SoFo do.

AFAIK, M-Audio acknowledged it was their fault for the problem with ACID 4.0 and the presently supported ASIO drivers. (They are the ones, after all, that fixed it via beta drivers.) I've also heard ACID accesses ASIO in a way that other audio apps do not (though I can't confirm this myself), exploiting any potential bugs a driver may have that wouldn't otherwise appear.
