I just got the latest emailing of the new loops for November, where I read about "The penultimate drum 'n' bass library." Surely not! Don't scare us like that! Seriously, I expect I'm one of a relative handful of people who would have noticed this, retaining as I do a bit of my "nit-picky editor" self from a former life. ("Penultimate" also happens to be one of my all-time favorite words, so I tend to sit up and take notice when somebody uses it--correctly or not. I guess you can tell what >I< read in the bathroom!) Don't feel chagrined: CNN does stuff like this all the time. It took three emails to get them to quit using "it's" as a possessive in their news emails...maybe...and they do hilariously worse in their ticker on a regular basis. But it does tend to make the news seem a little less dire. And if you really did mean "penultimate," which one's going to be the last drum 'n' bass library? Can we know? The loop libraries look good, by the way. |

lol ! I sometimes carry a big marker pen with me and correct signs - it's very common for the apostrophe to be left out. For example: "Joes Fruit" or alternatively "Muffin's for sale". Just one ? My other pet irritation is people who write "your" when they mean "you're". |

Agreed. I think people shouldn't be allowed out of high school until they have the following down. Their there they're, hour our, its it's, your you're, when win, hole whole, you'll Yule and any other grammar basics. Sorry about the non-Acid post. How about that 4.0? ;-) |

It must be a kind of dyslexia is all I know. Except uncorrected misusage tends to perpetuate more of the same, especially when so many people don't read well-written/well-edited material anymore. That's why I spoke up, SoFo! I was kind of ironically gratified, though, to see the reporting about how geographically challenged the "young [college-aged] kids" are now. Nachman was saying that, in his day (long ago), they used to beat him with a ruler in school to get him to learn his geography, implying they aren't doing a very good job of teaching these days. I got beaten with a ruler, too--I'm not a "young kid"--but I am the most geographically challenged person on this planet. I can edit circles around most people, but I still think of Vietnam as being somewhere between Russia and "England." I'd fail that U.S. map test, too (maps make me glaze over); believe it or not, intuition serves me better in the directions department. If I have not physically traversed an area, its location just doesn't sink in. The same thing goes for understanding hardware hookups, ins/outs, and latency issues. No matter how much I read about it, I just don't get it. Now, if somebody in Tallahassee would come over and physically "walk" me through setting up a good PCDAW in return for some pro editing...then I might understand. Perhaps all this is not as off-topic as it seems. |

I'm not surprised when a person mis-uses a word (such as penultimate) or even mis-spells a word. The mis-use of the word infamous is my particular pet-peeve ... it means "bad", mmm-kay? When a product gets released to the general public with a word that is misused it IS a big deal. Just grab a dictionary and look it up, even if you think you're correct it's always a good idea to double-check. The people who design the jackets may or may not have degrees, but someone somewhere along the way surely has a formal education. We may be wrong though; this library may indeed be the second to last. Doug |

good find. funny, but i've been working on a mix called "(push) penultimate" (with the intention that this is the one before the (last) big one), so perhaps that means that i should use these drums on it. <g> cheers, joel |
