As the heading says, SF and Acid are not seeing all of my CD drives as thay were in the past. Using SF 6.0d and Acid 4a. Interestingly, Wavelab 4.0 F is also not seeing them. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. P2, 512 ram, Win ME, Layla 20, EZ bus, 2 burners (Sony and SAF0 and 1 DVD Rom drive |

Is Windows Me itself seeing the drives? Iacobus |

Win me is seeing the drives. To be more specific, the extract audio function is not seeing the drives, yet the explorer is seeing them. |

clarksil, I cannot tell from your posted specs if you have a SCSI setup or not, but it sounds like you might. If you do, I would highly suggest updating your SCSI drivers and installing the latest ASPI layer provided by the SCSI card's manufacturer. Often this will make things, "just work". Are you using a RAID setup? These drivers can cause trouble when ACID scans for devices as well. Updating it's drivers should help, too. Barring those, do you have any external devices that behave like hard drives (digital camera connected via USB, flash media card reader, etc)? Nate |

Actually, the only burner that is being seen by the extract audio function is the SCSI one. The ide burner is not being seen by this function. I usually use the ide because it has a much faster (12x) burn rate vs. the scsi (2x). I seem to remember an acid or sound forge upgrade at one time did this and then a subsequent upgrade fixed it. It appears to be a software problem, maybe with a shared file. Do you know the folder, files that are used to share this extract audio function? I do not have a raid setup. |

The files associated with CD detection in SoFo apps are not shared. Each app has it's own. Under WinME, it won't be a question of ASPI vs SPTI, ASPI routines are really the only detection method to use here. What SCSI adapter are you using and which drivers do you have installed? Also, what is the version of the following file on your machine: C:\Windows\System\wnaspi32.dll Nate |

Again, the scsi is working. I am using the advansys scsi pci host adapter. It's the ide that it is not seeing, although it is seeing it in the explorer window of acid. How do I find the version of the wnaspi32.dll file? It is dated 6/8/2006, which seems pretty weird. |

OK, this is weird. Uninstalling Nero burning Rom with its uninstaller creates the problem, then when I reinstall Nero, it fixes it. I just manually deleted Nero, because I don't use it, and the drives are now recognized so the uninstaller for Nero mucks up the system somehow and prevents Acid4a, Sound Forge6d, Vegas Video 3c and Wavelab 4e from seeing the drives, again, except for the SCSI drive. I would really like to know which folder(s) and file(s) are neeeded so that I may make sure in the future this doesn't happen. I remember an upgrade of Acid or Sound Forge (I forget which one) also created this problem, and then a subsequent upgrade fixed it. |

Well, Nero can (and will) install it's own ASPI layer for access of SCSI devices if you either do not have a working ASPI layer or it needs to be updated. This could definately affect how other applications detect and access your drives. The problem with getting the proper ASPI layer for an Advansys card is that Advansys was consumed a couple of years ago by a company called ConnectCom, which seems to have been subsequently consumed by a company named Initio. Support for this card is legacy at best. I did, however, find this: http://www.initio.com/support/download.htm You may wish to try installing one of the ASPI packages available on this page and see if it helps. HTH, Nate |
