Hi all,

I recorded a project last night with 24 tracks. I had been working with it for about 3 hours with no problem. Then suddenly when I tried to play back the project from the start, it began to "glitch" on me all the way through the song. I could see the timers stop and start real quick, as if the project froze momentarily.

The best way I can describe how it sounds now is like listening to a song with split seconds cut out of it at random. Or like watching an on-location newscast with technical difficulty and the reporter's voice cutting in and out.

HELP! I have a slamming ass song that I hope I can repair!

It doesn't sound like your actual project is messed up. More that you are running low on system resources so Acid is struggling during playback. If you render the whole track to a .wav file it should playback fine. Some workarounds I use in this situation in order to keep working:

- mute all tracks that aren't involved in the section I am working on

- render any tracks that I feel are "complete". (especially ones with lots of FX)

- try playing around with the track properties dependant on the problems you are having. It's probably either your RAM or your CPU. Loops go off of RAM and Beatmapped and One-shots go off CPU. So sometimes you can switch these up if you are having a specific resource problem.
- pay attention to what FX you are using. Some of them can be CPU nightmares. In your FX folder there are "track optimized" effects that are an easier load.

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! FX was the last thing I worked on before I had problems!! The funny thing is, I JUST removed all the FX about 20 minutes ago as a last resort, and the project began playing properly again.

So, while I figured out that it was the FX causing the problem, I did NOT think about RAM speed. What do you mean by CPU? I'm not a huge techy, but I only recall that to mean "central processing unit". Do you mean the mhz amount?

What general specs would you recommend to get optimal uninterruped performance out of Acid?

That's what anon meant. Generally, the higher the instructions per second, the better. The industry broke the MHz (Megahertz; 1 million CPU instructions/second) speed limit a little while ago, so now it's GHz (Gigahertz; 1 billion CPU instructions/second). (Intel has an upcoming Pentium 4 CPU that goes at 3.06 GHz. Oy.)

As far recommended specs: As much as you can get. ;o)

(BTW, One-shots play back from the hard drive only if they're longer than three seconds. Other than that, they playback from RAM.)
