What type of mouse is it? I've actually had more trouble getting wheeled mice to work using the drivers provided by the manufacturer than I have just using the standard Windows-provided drivers. Does you mouse have customizable buttons that require you to install a custom software package?

Good point!ng(device:-)Nate!
I use this MS ExplTrckBall. It will allow programming of even the scroll wheel. Sometimes, though not recently......Acid makes it act up. Sometimes just opening up the mouse properties and closing it fixes it, other times either log off/on or a reboot is necessary.
Using this older 3 button mouse, I once had to do a right click/uninstall in the device manager/reboot to get it to have scroll wheel. That was right after a fresh install of the OS. Very strange, but very rare.

I've come across this problem too, which led to the software and drivers that came with the mouse. So I just use the drivers included with Windows XP. I don't have a mouse with multiple buttons anyway.
