Hello I am looking for help with Presonus Firestation used in Acid Pro4.0a (build237). I do not get a high enough input signal. All the lights are on but nobody is there. It is set up in "Options" with mlan chosen and in "record". I have tried Ch 1 input and SPDIF thru Ch 7/8. As an alternative, I tried Audigy ASIO but it says "Creative does not support the sample rate" How does this work? My GuitarPort and Audigy work under Windows Classic Wave Driver . I cannot use ASIO on anything. Any ideas? Thanks |

thats because the Audigy sux ass!! its NOT for music making. youre better off returning it, getting your money back and spending less that what you paid for it when you get either a Terratec EWX 24/96 or a Audiophile 24/96. both those cards rule!! -Sin |

Try a lower resolution and sample rate if you haven't done so already. Ideally, try 16-bit/48 kHz, as this is what the Audigy does internally anyway. That's a sweet rack unit. To maximize its potential, consider interfacing it with such cards as Sin mentioned. The Mia from Echo is recommended as well. M-Audio Echo Terratec HTH, Iacobus |

I've considered that unit myself and would like to know if there are problems with it. Have you talked to their tech support. It may be a settings issue that you're not understanding. The Audigy problems on the other hand are a little simpler. The problem is that the audigy can only work properly at 48k, not at 44k like most software including Acid defaults at. The reason it works with the Windows Classic Wave Driver is that the Classic Wave Driver converts sample rates on the fly. I wouldn't use this driver though. For one thing, it doesn't do a proper sample rate conversion and sounds terrible. For another, it is an extra bit of software in the way eating up valuable CPU cycles. What I'd recommend is that you just do your projects at 48k and convert them to 44k in Soundforge or Wavelab right before you burn them to CD. The problem you're going to run into though is that I believe the Guitar Port is permanently set to 44k and the Audigy is permanently set to 48k. You may not be able to use them both on the same project. Laurence Kingston Laurence Kingston |

We have encountered a number of driver bugs with the mLan drivers that Firestation uses. We are working on the problem with Yamaha and Presonus. Thanks Peter |

Thanks SonicPCH and Laurence ! I appreciate the help. Great info Laurence...I will give this a try and repost. The sampling rates seem to be a much bigger issue than I thought. For oddboy: I think you will love the Firestation. It works wonderfully in Cubase SX! My only advise will be to follow the "Firestation new user" information linked on the Presonus website. You will need to set up the Mlan Patchbay before anything works...it doesn't tell you this in the very minimal owner's manual that comes with it. You will want to save a patchbay and name it something to recall it after you turn on the hardware(I named it Firestation 44 so it is easy to id it in the drop-down File list)If you have Win XP you can use the tip for right clicking the one channel and they all are setup...very cool-makes it real easy. You must setup Audio and midi If you have a problem email me thru Acid Planet; my artist name is NoSkippy For SonicPCH: Can you add the fix info to the FAQ on the Acid site...I might miss the Forum posting...thanks |

Laurence...I can confirm what you are saying; I tried to change the Audigy to sample at 44 to match the GuitarPort and it gives the same error message-Creative does not support the sample rate. In GuitarPort there is an option for 48 but it is grayed out so it must be a future update planned when they come out with the ASIO drivers. On the Firestation-I sent an email to tech support but they maybe on a long weekend. My guess is I am suppose to run it in WDM mode as suggested on the Presonus site but I thought with Acid's ASIO addition in Pro4 that it would work. I guess both my problems are on hold until the updates kick in...thanks The Firestation is solid..perfect for a one person home studio...my bass is always plugged in, the mic is too, and I run from my Fender CyberTwin out SBDIF into the Firestation and right on thru to Cubase SX...rename the input channels and I just turn on and go(not like the 60's with the magic mushrooms and all...) |

Can you confirm this? I was told witht the firestation you could not run other cards at the same time on the same mahine. And I was told you only have 2 in 2 out until they update the driverrs |

I have the Firestation working with Acid Pro 4.0...thanks to Mark at Presonus... 1- Open control panel check "WDM" and hit "Send" 2- Go to the patchbay and hit "apply" 3- Open Acid Under options choose "Windows Classic Wave" and set all the playbacks to Yamaha mlan and hit "apply" 4- Hit the "record dot" and choose the Yamaha port for your input 5- It is only two channels but it works |
